Tide Overcomes Mistakes, Sends Arkansas Home Disappointed

Game Report Posted: September 03, 2009 00:50

Alabama overcame turnovers and blocked kicks to win their conference opener. The offense had a mediocre day with Ingram going down with an injury that held him out a few quarters and Upchurch never consistent. You could tell Coach Perry was uncomfortable with how the running game was going when he had freshmen runningback Trent Richardson standing next to him almost being sent in. But he decided not to and so far Richardson still has his redshirt status.

The rush defense had a great day with many tackles for loss that put Arkansas's total rushing yards in the negative.

Next week the Tide travels to Lexington to take on the Kentucky Wildcats. Will Bama take out their frustration on the Wildcats or is this another potential trap game?

Tide Ready To Roll

Season Report Posted: August 23, 2009 05:07

Last year, the Tide rose to the top only to be tackled off of their pedestal in their final 2 games. Well, they look to be in line to climb to the top again and with 9 starters returning from the #3 defense of 2009, they could finish there. But they are gonna need help from a rebuilding offense that only returns 6 players that had solid playing time last year. The good news is one of those players is true sophomore Julio Jones.

Tide Rushing Attack Rolls Through Hokie Defense, Alabama Wins 35-10

Game Report Posted: August 24, 2009 02:23

Alabama started off the season right with a big win on the road against #10 Virginia Tech. The Hokies got on the board first with a long FG, but that's about all they did. After that, Bama scored 28 unanswered points. They beat them on offense, defense, and even beat them with their own version of "Beamer Ball" special teams when junior Rolando McClain blocked a Virginia Tech FG attempt.

Tide Rolls; Lose Reamer for Season, Ingram for 3 Weeks

Game Report Posted: September 06, 2009 21:40

Alabama came into Oxford and rolled through what is now considered an overrated Ole Miss team. But in the process of their big win, the Tide lost starting OLB Cory Reamer for the season and starting HB Mark Ingram until the LSU game in 4 weeks. Jerrelle Harris stepped in for Reamer and was pretty quiet until the 4th quarter when he recorded one of the defense's many sacks off an inside blitz. Roy Upchurch stepped in for Ingram from his part time role and rolled through the defense getting 100+ yards and 2 TD's.

The offense overall was effective but the defense had to bail them out after some careless fumbles. Greg McElroy made no mistakes and got 2 key TD's. Julio Jones recorded his 2nd overall and consecutive 100+ receiving yards game. And with the way this offensive line is improving along with first-year starter McElroy, their may be many more.

Snead passed for over 200 yards but even with that you gotta give the W to the defense. 40 plays that he dropped back: only had 15 completions, 13 incompletions that include an INT, he rushed back to the line of scrimmage one time for 0 yards, and he was sacked 11 times. That is the definition of domination. The rushing game wasn't any better for the Rebels. Bolden only rushed for 29 yards while all others that attempted but the Ole Miss rushing total in the negative.

Next week the Tide returns home to face a surging South Carolina team that has a lot of youth and could be forced into mistakes.

Tide Rising

Game Report Posted: September 02, 2009 00:57

The defense led by linebacker's McClain and Hightower won this game by causing turnovers and only allowing the Wolverine offense to convert 2 3rd down conversions. Alabama also got to the QB 4 times for big time sacks that slowed down the offense. But it wasn't a great day for the passing offense when it came to yards. Michigan threw for over 300 yards but they only managed to get 26 total yards on the ground thanks to many tackles behind the line of scrimmage.

The tide offense continued there safe pound the ball style and nearly got 200 yards on the ground. Even though McElroy barely passed over 100 yards most of his plays took the ball past the first down marker.

Next week the Tide have the Razorbacks coming to town. Can the Hogs swim when the Tide is rising?
