Orangemen Finished, Eagles Eye Hokies

Chestnut Hill, MA - The Orange from Syracuse may have to change their name to the black and blue after their match up with the undefeated Boston College Eagles. Many analysis were picking the 4-2 Orange to upset the Eagles, as many thought the Eagles were in a trap game as they will be travelling to Blacksburg for their next game against rival Virginia Tech. "We knew what everybody was saying, coach did a great job of keeping us focused. One game at a time. We weren't playing Virginia Tech today, our focus was on Syracuse," Eagles running back Andre Williams said.
Andre Williams continues to build a case why he should be the Heisman trophy winner. For Williams it was just another day at the office, but 25 carries, 172 yards and 2 touchdowns later, he showed why he is the best back in the game. "The difference between Andre and the rest is that Andre doesn't quit. You hit him, you have 4 guys trying to tackle him, but he seems to gain another 3 or 4 yards. He keeps him legs pumping," Eagles coach Frank Spaziani said after the game.
Andre Williams wasn't the only Eagle to have a great day offensively, quarterback Chase Rettig without question played his best game of the season. Rettig completed a season high 70% of his passes for 235 yards and 3 touchdowns. "We came into the game wanting to throw the ball. Everybody and their mother knows we like to run the ball, but we wanted and needed to get him going early on, and it kept Syracuse's defense off balance which is what you always want to do," coach Spaz said.
The stat line would have you believe that the game was a lot closer than it really was. Throughout the game Syracuse could not get any momentum as the Eagles defense was applying pressure and stuffing the run, and not letting the quick receivers get too open. "Defensively it was without a doubt our most solid game we've played in a couple of weeks, although there were somethings we need to address, but overall I'm pleased," Frank Spaziani told reporters.
As mentioned before, the Eagles now have to travel on 95 south to Blacksburg, VA to take on the 15th ranked Hokies. It will be without a doubt the Eagles toughest game this season. Virginia Tech boasts the nation's 4th best defense, 3rd against the run. "They're a great team, but they have some flaws, they've been beaten this season and hopefully with a good week of practice we'll be able to still be undefeated," Chase Rettig said.
The game is on primetime at 7 p.m.
Rettig Leads Eagles Past Panthers
October 6, 2012
Game Report Posted: November 05, 2011 16:10
Pittsburgh, PA The Boston College Eagles flew into Pittsburgh looking to continue their 5 game winning streak, wanting to become 6-0. Fortunately for the Eagles they brought their quarterback Chase Rettig, weird to say I know.
Rettig has been the most inconsistent piece in the Eagles 3rd ranked offense. For the season he is completing just over 50% of his passes. Sure maybe you can blame coach Spaziani for favoring the running game led by Andre Williams and a stout defense led by Luke Kuechly, thus never giving Rettig to get into a rhythm. But on this day, Chase Rettig would be the only consistent player on the Eagles offense.
Andre Williams, has not had a fumble all season, but when he broke through the defense on a 11 yard carry, and Panther linebacker, sophomore Devin Cook came from behind and punched the ball out of Williams' usually tight grip coach Spaz said "I knew that we were in for a fight."
Although the Panthers were unable to turn the fumble into points, it was great defensive play that kept them in the game.
The game started off great for the Eagles as wideout Bobby Swigert took the opening kick off 102 yards for his first kick off return for a touchdown. But that would be all they could muster against a tough Pitt Panther defense. Pitt finally found some offensive mojo and freshman running back Cedric Burns punched in a 3 yard touchdown to tie the game at the end of the first.
The Panthers defense played the Eagles great running game better then any other team this season. Andre Williams was held to only 47 yards rushing in the first half, including a 22 yard score, but Chase Rettig was able to give the Eagles offense when the rest couldn't. Rettig although only completing 53% of his passes in the first half, a big 64 yard touchdown pass to Johnathan Coleman at the end of the first half to increase their lead to 21-10.
Rettig passed for a season high 255 yards. He also had a couple of big runs to extend drives that were at 3rd and 7, and 3rd and 11. "Chase played a great game for us. He was able to make key throws and also showed his athleticism with some big runs for us," coach Spaziani said.
Next up for the Eagles, they get to go back home and welcome the surprising 4-2 Syracuse Orangemen.
QB Christian Suntrup Dismissed
October 2, 2012
Season Report Posted: November 04, 2011 23:15
After several weeks of calling out head coach Frank Spaziani, Christian Suntrup has been dismissed from the team. In a statement released by the school, the Eagles said "Red Shirt Freshman quarterback Christian Suntrup has been dismissed from all football related activities, and we wish him the best of luck in all his future endeavors."
With the roster move it leaves the Eagles with three quarterbacks on the roster, junior Chase Rettig, senior Dave Shinskie and sophomore Josh Bordner.
Army "D" No Match for Soaring Eagles "O"

Chestnut Hill, MA The Army Black Knights and Boston College Golden Eagles squared off in what was a much tougher win than the statistics may show. The Black Knights did run for more yards than any other team Boston College has faced this season, 153 yards, but it wasn't enough to over come the running of Heisman hopeful Andre Williams.
Williams had himself a day, a short day, but a day that will only add to his Heisman candidacy. It only took 15 carries, but Williams gained 164 yards and added a score. "The dude's a tank," Eagles' left tackle John Wetzel told reporters. "You think you have him down, but he ends up 10 yards past your defense."
The Eagles struggled to start the game. On their first possession, the first play, QB Chase Rettig was sacked by Nate Combs for a 10 yard loss. On the very next play, Combs got to Rettig again, but this time knocked the ball loose, and Army recovered at the BC 10. Fortunately for the Eagles their defense came to play and held them to a field goal. "That set the momentum for us on the day. After the defense held their ground and didn't give up a touch down. It set us up for the rest of the game," QB Chase Rettig said.
Rettig had a easy day for the most part as he only threw 13 passes, completed 8 with 2 scores. The BC running game lead the way, to no surprise. For the third time this season, Boston college ran for over 300 yards in the game. As mentioned before, Andre Williams only played a quarter and a half due to injury. He did return, but for safety purposes he was pulled. Rolandan Finch played less than a quarter due to showing concussion symptoms. Then Tahj Kimble came in and had his second 100 yard rushing game.
Next week Boston College travels to the state of Pennsylvania to take on the surprising Pitt Panthers, who has beaten two ranked teams in Virginia Tech (8th) and Miami (22nd).
Eagles Come Out as Victors in 2012 Holy War

Chestnut Hill, MA - The Holy of 2012 has ended, the battlefield is cleared, and the Boston College Eagles have come out on top defeating the Fight Irish of Notre Dame 31-27. "It feels good to finally beat those guys. They've had our number over the past few seasons, so we'll definitely enjoy this one," BC coach Frank Spaziani said during his post game presser.
Say Notre Dame has had the Eagles number over the last few seasons is a understatement. Notre Dame has won every game between the two teams since 2009, that's 4-0 in the last three seasons (the Irish beat BC twice last season, once during the regular season and again the Orange Bowl). This win probably means a little more than past victories since Notre Dame is now a member of the ACC North Division, which gives them a leg up in the all important conference race.
Boston College came out guns firing in the opening drive of the game. Every game this season, Boston College has started with a run play. Knowing this fact, the Fight Irish came out on defense expecting a run, but when BC QB Chase Rettig pull the ball back and launched a 24 yard completion to Johnathan Coleman, the Eagles offense was off and running. Although opening drive didn't yield any points, Boston College established the momentum of the game. The only points in the first quarter came after Andre Williams busted a broken play 57 yards. The Heisman hopeful Williams, added another 160 yards to is already league leading total, also adding another 3 touchdowns. It's his third straight game with 3 or more touchdowns. "Usually, you can describe a player's play to a slough of things, but the streak Andre has been on can't be described. A few times its been all him. Scooping up bad hand offs, breaking tackles in the back field. He's the man," Eagles QB Chase Rettig said.
Offensively and defensively Boston College dominated the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Notre Dame couldn't find any rhythm. Half way through the third quarter BC was leading 24-0, but the Eagles seem to become complacent, and the Fighting Irish clawed their way back into the game. Eventually overtaking the Eagles with less than 2 minutes remaining. Chase Rettig was seen on the sideline talking strategy with offensive coordinator Kevin Rogers, little did he know that strategy would be irrelevant as on the ensuing kickoff would end the game.
Bobby Swigert who had just been put into the kick return role for the game, little did he know that he would change the outcome of the game. Swigert received the ball 1 yard deep in the endzone and would break free of a three man tackle and the rest of the kickoff team did not expect him the break free, and Swigert was gone. Give the Eagles the 31-27 lead with less than 1:30 remaining in the game. "It was crazy. I thought I was down, you know I was hit be like three guys, but next thing I know I'm still running and we've taken the lead," Swigert said after the game.
"It's a big win for this team. There are plenty of things we need to work on, but for now we'll take Sunday off and celebrate a big win, but we have Army up next," coach Spaz added.
Boston College passed their first hurtle of the season, but as coach Spaziani said, the game was far from perfect.
Next up for the Eagles are the Army Black Knights, in Chestnut Hill.
