Game Report Posted: July 31, 2009 16:27

Seems like the bad luck carried over from last season...tonight the Chippewas lost to Arizona 27-17.

Key Moments Of The Game:
- Andrew Aguila missed two kicks from about 30 yards out.
- Beginning of 4th Q: Fumbled Punt Returned for TD
- Arizona's defense ended the game with 10 sacks
- Arizona was able to man up all game against an inferior team

1st Half
Arizona chose to start the season off with the ball in their hands. The chippewas were able to force them to a long field goal attempt that they would ultimately fall short on.

On Central Michigan's first drive, they eased their way down the field, but would also fall short on a field goal attempt that would later cost them.

The Chippewas were able to get on the board with a 7 yard rush on 4th and 1 to make the score 7-3 in favor of CMU.

Early on in the second quarter, Arizona's qaurterback Nick Foles would find Terrell Turner all alone for an 18 yard TD reception.

In the beginning of the fourth quarter the Chippewas forced Arizona to a punt, and as Coach K began to think to himself that this was the most critical drive of the game....the ball was fumbled and returned for a TD. This play brought the lead back up to 10 for Arizona, and basically gave them the win. Coach K had this to say about the play, "It's unfortunate for a game to be decided on a play like that. But ultimately, we had plenty of other oppurtunities. If Aguila would've hit those chip shots earlier in the game we would've been up three, looking to run the clock out and not looking to make a big play."

Central Michigan was able to add a field goal, but the defense just couldn't get Arizona off the field as they ran the clock down to double-zeros.

Press Conference -

Media - "Coach K, what are your thoughts on that final play?"
Coach K - "That is absolute disrespect! You don't kick a FG when you can just let the clock run out and the game is basically over. You can be SURE we will get these guys back in the future. We won't forget this incident!"

Media - "Coach, what can you take from this game"
Coach K - "Well, we are going to have serious thoughts about who should be our kicker. That cost us the game tonight. Also, our offensive linemen need to give Dan more time in the pocket. 10 sacks!!!! That is completely unacceptable!
