Bye Week Report: Recruting Part 2
March 13, 0010
Weekly Report Posted: October 28, 2013 00:23
The second part of our recruiting report focuses on where the top recruits in the country have committed and who the top schools are for those that haven't made their decision yet. Seven weeks into the season, there are a good number of big recruits that have decided on where they are going to play college ball.
When we talk about top recruits, there is no better place to start than with the #1 recruit in the nation, athlete Conrad Peterson out of Missouri, who committed to Alabama last week. We know that Peterson will play on the offensive side of the ball, but where is a mystery, as he possesses elite skills to play both wide receiver and running back. Peterson also played quarterback in high school and could end up under center at Alabama for Nick Saban.
The #3 athlete and the #5 recruit in the nation, Mike Wilson, committed to Wisconsin early on. At 6'5" and 221 pounds, Wilson will most likely play tight end for the Badgers. Wisconsin made a huge recruiting splash when they convinced Wilson to stay in-state to play his college ball.
The third-ranked running back and the #8 recruit, Kyle Clark, announced his verbal commitment to Tennessee over the weekend, choosing the Vols over Notre Dame and Alabama. At 5'8" and 176 pounds, Clark is a little undersized, but can be compared to Oregon's De'Anthony Thomas in terms of skill and potential.
To round out the top 10, athlete Sean Bryant, the #9 recruit, has been committed to Ohio State since the preseason. Bryant, who will be playing defensive back, is one of the best defensive players in the country and a huge grab for Urban Meyer's Buckeyes.
Finally, the top ranked quarterback, 4-star Adam Hayford, announced his commitment to Oregon over the weekend. At 6'4" and 219 pounds, Mayford is almost a splitting image of current Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota. If Mariota declares for the draft after this year, expect Hayford to compete for the starting job right away.

Seminoles emberass Clemson in Death Valley
March 13, 0010
Game Report Posted: October 28, 2013 05:24
Jameis Winston threw for 320 yards and 4 touchdowns, rushed 68 more and another score on the ground, and Florida State beat the Clemson Tigers 47-28 in Death Valley.
After a 52-yard Levonte Whitfield kickoff return, Winston found Rashad Greene in the end zone for a 30 yard score. Clemson punted on their first drive, which Florida State turned into a 44-yard Winston scramble followed by a 33 yard pass to Kenny Shaw to quickly put it at 14-0.
On Clemson's first play of their next drive, Terrance Brooks recovered a fumble forced by the defense to the end zone to make it 21-0. Clemson would score on their next drive, but from there on it was all Florida State.
Winston was intercepted 3 times on the day, once from a tipped pass in the first quarter and twice from miscues with his receivers.
Tajh Boyd threw for 386 yards and 4 touchdowns to try to keep the Tigers in the game, but they were always playing from behind. His interception by Lamarcus Joyner in the end zone in the first quarter allowed the Seminoles to keep the lead early on.
The Nole's defense held the Tigers to just 43 rushing yards, Clemson's fewest of the year. With the run game abandoned early on, Boyd turned to his receivers and both Martavis Bryant and Sammy Watkins had over 100 yards receiving.
In the end, the Seminoles were able to control the clock thanks to their trio of running backs, who combined for 177 yards on the ground. Florida State was able to get pressure on Boyd throughout the game, but only accounted for one sack on the day. However, the pressure was certainly felt as Boyd constantly overthrew his receivers or threw the ball away when the defense was in his face.
The Seminoles move to 6-0 on the season and 4-0 in the ACC, while the Tigers fall to 5-2 on the year. With this win, Florida State gains sole possession of first place in the ACC Atlantic Divison.
FSU holds off the upset-minded Terps

The Maryland Terrapins came into Tallahassee on Saturday without their top two quarterbacks, but still gave the Seminoles everything they could in this ACC matchup. The Terp's Brandon Ross ran for 129 yards on the ground, but it wasn't enough to overcome the turnover-prone Seminoles in Doak Campbell Stadium.
Jameis Winston threw for 323 yards and 3 touchdowns, but was intercepted on a tipped pass and fumbled the ball twice, one of which was returned for a touchdown in the third quarter. Karlos Williams provided a spark to the struggling run game, breaking free for a 71-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, the longest from any of the running backs so far this season. Rashad Greene hauled in 7 passes for 84 yards and 2 touchdowns and Kelvin Benjamin caught a 35-yard pass from Winston late in the fourth quarter to put the game away.
Defensively, the Noles struggled to contain the run game from the Terps. Although Brandon Ross didn't have a single run over 20 yards, he continued to gash the defense all day. Terrance Brooks led the Noles with 8 tackles and Ronald Darby and Lamarcus Joyner each intercepted the Terp's freshman quarterback.
