Texas A&M too much for the Bulldogs

Texas A&M dominated the game defensively and forced 6 turnovers in a 40-3 win over Fresno State.

Fresno State's defense received plenty of praise from head coach Pat Hill despite giving up 40 points in the loss.

"I'll tell you what, if our defense plays like they did today the rest of this season, we will be a pretty darn good football team," said Hill.

The defense was put in tough spots repeatedly by the Fresno State offense who turned the ball over 6 times inside their own territory. But the Bulldog defense held A&M to field goals often and did not throw in the towel.

Texas A&M finished with 193 yards rushing on 47 carries. While this does not look good for Fresno State, 64 of those yards came on one run by quarterback S. McGee. Outside of that one play, the defense held A&M to 129 yards on 46 carries.

Fresno State held star RB J. Lane to 88 yards on 27 carries.

For as much praise as Hill had for his defense, he had an equal amount of negativity towards his offense.

"We just didn't have a clue out there today offensively. It is tough when you can't run the ball. We couldn't even present a threat to them with our running game. Our offensive line was pathetic," said Hill.

Running back Lonyae Miller was held to just 3 yards on 12 carries following his 271 yard/5 TD game last week. As a team, Fresno had -22 rushing yards on 16 carries.

Hill was also frustrated by starting QB Brandstater's play for the 2nd game in a row. Brandstater threw 4 more interceptions without a TD giving him 9 interceptions in 2 games.

"We talked about it last week yet here we are again. He has to learn he cannot turn the ball over and put our defense in bad positions. There really isn't much more to say than that," said Hill.

Fresno State falls to 1-1 and has another difficult road game next week at Oregon.
