Fresno State gets easy win

It was an expected win to start the season for the Bulldogs, but Fresno State did not disappoint the fans in the season opener.

Lonyae Miller ran for 271 yards and 5 touchdowns in the 80-7 route of Sacramento State. Miller also had a receiving touchdown giving him 6 total TDs in the opener.

The Fresno State defense looked dominant up front racking up 13 sacks and forcing 7 turnovers. Jason Roberts led the way with 5 sacks while Jason Shirly and Tyler Cutts grabbed 3 each.

If there was a disappointment to the game, it was the performance of QB Tom Brandstater. The junior was 14-for-28 for 144 yards but threw 5 interceptions.

"Tom has to do a better job of taking care of the ball. We were fortunate that we opened with a small school because it will be difficult to beat conference teams if he turns the ball over 5 times. He knows that and I am confident he will get it corrected," said head coach Pat Hill.

Fresno State has a big game next week as they travel to take on the #24 ranked Texas A&M Aggies in one of the more difficult home crowd environments in the nation.
