Dawgs start season off right
Columbia, Sc. --- In an opening demonstration that could only be characterized as dominating, the Georgia Bulldogs gunned down South Carolina in an opening-week matchup against an SEC foe, 48-11. Georgia led 24-0 before South Carolina scored their first points with 2:07 remaining in the first half.
Georgia scored on a 9-yard run by Richard Samuel on their first drive. Samuel takes over as the starter this season after backing up Caleb King last year. King went pro a year early, and Samuel appeared to be quite capable in this game with 34 carries for 127 yards and three touchdowns.
Samuel added a second touchdown late in the first quarter and Blair Walsh kicked his first field goal of the seasno to make it 17-0 Washington. Minutes later, Thomas Cody threw a touchdown pass to tight end Orson Charles, the first of Cody's career.
Cody was spectacular in his first appearance, going 26-for-38 for 423 yards and two touchdowns. He wasn't sacked and didn't throw an interception.
Bulldog scoring plays in the second half included a 19-yard pass from Cody to A.J. Green, who finished with 192 yards.
"Just a big, offensive explosion type of day," said Richt. "Our offensive line allowed us to do anything we wanted to. They dictated this game."
