Manhattan, KS (AP) - Growth as a player. Learning from your mistakes. That was the message that Kansas State head coach Ron Prince preached after last week's heart breaking 37-17 loss to Auburn.

It seems like he nailed it right on the dot.

Josh Freeman, who was picked off a horrendous five times against Auburn, rebounded this Saturday as he threw for four touchdowns on 26 of 37 passing, chalking up 290 yards on the day. The key, however, was that Freeman was picked off just one time by the San Jose State defense. Freeman had one other turnover, a fumble, however it was on a questionable decision by the officiating crew. The play was challenged by Ron Prince, but the original ruling was upheld as the officials cited the reason of indisputable evidence.

"To be honest, two is still two more turnovers than I'd like from Josh on a week-by-week basis. But that's not realistic. The point is, Josh learned from his mistakes last week and bounced back this week. He was the most important player for us on the field this week

Freeman finished with a 166.3 QB rating on the day.

Receiver Toney Coleman had yet another big game for the 'Cats, grabbing eight balls for 68 yards and one touchdown, improving his number of catches on the season to 19 in just two games. He was outshined in the receiving category, however, as Jordan Nelson put in a solid day's work of five catches for 97 yards and two touchdowns, including an electrifying 53 yard play that put K-State up 6-0 on their first drive of the game.

The 'Cats defense was NOT a highlight of the game, however, as they gave up 405 yards of total offense by the San Jose, including 333 passing yards. 'State seemed to give up first down after first down by the Spartan offense, including 3 passing touchdowns by junior quarterback Sean Flynn.

The defensive coaching staff of K-State hopes that these problems will be shored up in two weeks time, at least they better if the 'Cats hope to have a chance when they open up against returning Big XII Champions, Texas, on the road next week.

But, before then the Wildcats will remain in Manhattan as they take on FCS Missouri State next Saturday. Kansas State will be looking to improve to 2-1 on the season.
