Coming off a last second win last week against Ohio, the struggling Eastern Michigan Eagles flew into town riding a dismal 1-3 record. Kent scored on their first 4 possessions, including a safety. Andre Flowers gained 222 all purpose yards leading the Golden Flashes to a 36-21 Victory. Kent St will host Mississippi St in two weeks.

The way the game started it, it looked as if the final score would be in triple digits, but that was not the case. Kent and NIU were neck and neck going into half with the score 28-24 with Kent winning. The players came out of the locker room with all intentions of keeping the 1st half pace. However, both teams defenses picked up the intensity by forcing each team to go 4 and out the whole 3rd quarter and into the 4th with the game still tied 28-24. With 6:06 reaming, Star runner Aaron Flowers beasted his way for a 23 yard TD, breaking many tackles on the way. Not to be out done though, NIU had marched to Kent St 10 yard line, where Mike Brown ran a 10 yard run, and a 2 pt conversion. The Golden Flashes milked down the clock to bring their record to 5-0 ( 2-0 )

Kent State Players Fans and Coaches left heartbroken

Nothing was going right for your Golden Flashes. Penalties were getting called. The defenders were in the right place at the right time. Add this all up, and you find yourself down 31-13 going into the half. The undefeated Golden Flashes limped into the locker room with a look of defeat on their faces. Coach of the Golden Flashes must have gave the players on hell of a pep talk, because it was night and day with the performance. The Flashes looked unstoppable. Scoring 5 times in a row, before kicker A.Miles kicked a 44 yard FG into the wind with 1:00 left in the 4th going ahead 32-31. Game over right? Wrong. The Red Hawks marched right down the field before Kicker R.Roberts kicked a 23 yard Field Goal with only a second left on the clock to give them the go ahead lead 34-32. Everyone who was just jumping on the sidelines, was now in a daze wondering what just happened.

Tough outing for Over matched Flashes

Game Report Posted: August 05, 2009 02:23

Its pretty hard to come ahead from a 20 pt first Quarter. But the Flashes are accustomed to big deficits if you remember the Miami(OH) game. Trailing 34-14 going into half, coach Gallo gave the players a pretty angry half time speech, " Were better then these Owls... you guys going to let some owls beat you?" The answer was yes, they were. Nothing went right today. Fumbles, Pick 6's, Over turned calls, a safety, you get the picture. Kent St will try to recooperate when they host rival Akron next week.
