Harris, Canes drop a bomb on the Jackets

Season Report Posted: August 12, 2009 04:27

After a very sub par performance in the first game of the season, Jacory Harris showed everyone flashes of brilliance in this one. The young sophomore threw for 217 yards off of 11 completions from 14 attempts with 2 touchdowns, while also rushing for 52 yards and touchdown while leading his team to a dominant 31-7 win over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

The key to the game and the reason for the blowout was the Hurricanes' rushing defense, holding Tech's offense to just 105 yards. That number alone sealed the deal, as the Cane's 175 yards on the ground meant that they controlled the clock, and the game's pace.

Tech's defense led to a struggle of sorts early for Graig Cooper who only had 32 yards on 10 carries at the half. In the second half though, he was able to hit holes hard and not look back, and finished the game with 90 yards on 20 carries.

The Canes have to play Virginia Tach next week, which may be their biggest test of the season.

Canes get 3 early Commits

Season Report Posted: August 12, 2009 03:17

Safeties Richie Harris, Johnny Weeks, and defensive tackle Lawrence Ford will all be wearing the orange and green next year. Harris is a 5* prospect, while the other two are listed as 4* prospects by Rivals.com. Shannon had this to say:

"It was great getting those three guys to come down and commit with us. All of them are superb athletes that should help us in the years to come. The only question will be whether or not one of the Safeties moves down to play linebacker. Harris is at 200 pounds right now, but is solid rock. Weeks is kind of a hybrid guy back there. He'l play some corner as well as both Safety spots. Ford should clog up the rushing lanes, and may have a chance to start next year."

Already off to a good start it looks like for the Hurricanes, who last week defeated rival Florida State. If their good luck continues in the season and recruiting, then they should be able to return to their old form.

Seminoles Feel the Hurricane
The 2009 season could not have started any better for the Miami Hurricanes. After only recording 4 interceptions all of last year, on the second play from scrimmage Linebacker Colin McCarthy picked off an out route pass from Christian Ponder, and took it to the house for the first Hurricane Touchdown all season.

The Hurricanes would find another scoring opportunity after a Florida State punt, as Jacory Harris ran a perfect speed option and pitched it outside to Graig Cooper for a 21 yard touchdown.( Note: The game counted this as an incomplete pass.)

On the ensuing kickoff the FSu return man fumbles the ball after a jarring hit from Richerd Gordon. Star recruit Ray Ray Armstrong was there to pick up the ball and set up another touchdown, this one a 2 yard touchdown run by Javaris James.

Florida State would manage a touchdown in each of the second and third quarters, but were no match for the Hurricanes, and they ended the at a 26-14 clip.
