Heading into the first week of games, this is the preseason ranking of the WAC teams. Obviously it seems the conference is Boise State and then everybody else. Nevada and Fresno State have had some good showings. But then the rest of the teams are really jockeying for 4th it seems. Here's how the prognosticators see the conference shaking out:

1. Boise St. (5) (5star)
2. Nevada (39 ) (2star)
3. Fresno St (40) (3star)
4. Idaho (89) (1star)
5. La Tech (95) (2star)
6. Hawaii (100) (3star)
7. Utah St (112) (1star)
8. NM STATE (113) (1star)
9. SJ State (117) (1star)

First game starts with a thud in the rain; Aztecs win 28-7

August 28, 2010

Weekly Report Posted: January 11, 2011 03:26

The new Aggie season started terribly as the Aztecs pulled off a solid win on the road, 28-7.

The Aggies were done in by defensive lapses and untimely turnovers. Both fumbles occurred in San Diego St territory, the first on the Aztecs 1 yard line clinging to a 7 point lead.

Total yards were 377 - 285 in favor of the Aztecs.

Fleming was our leading passer going 9 of 20 for 93 yards. He also ran for 50 yards and was our leading scorer.

Our top halfback, Seth Smith, only went for 40 yards on 16 carries and his longest run was only 8 yards. A tough overall day for him.

Our leading receiver was our tight end, Kyle Nelson, as he pulled down 5 for 58 yards. However, he had the bonehead move of the day fumbling on the 1 yard line as we were trying to tie it up.

Our defensive player of the game was our corner, Ben Bradley. he had 5 tackles, 2 for losses and 2 sacks.

The Aztecs leading player was their halfback Brandon Sullivan as he ran for 130 yards and 2 TD, and caught 3 balls for another 50.

And away we go.....New year, new management, and renewed hopes for a solid year in the WAC. Although those high goals may be hard to attain at first. We're still going to give it our all and let the chips fall where they may.

First goal will be to get comfortable in the offense and see if we can win a few games. Next we want to achieve a bowl game and then see if we can win the WAC. A tall order for sure considering the powerhouse known as Boise State dominates our conference. Nonetheless, we are going to give it a shot.

Next post will give a positional overview as we begin our season.
