Buckeyes Ready to Roll

August 30, 2008

Season Report Posted: September 13, 2008 05:24

The Ohio State Buckeyes, led by Heisman Hopeful Beanie Wells, are ready to try to erase the sting of back to back defeats in the National Title Game. After losing to favored LSU last January, the Buckeyes saw Juniors Malcolm Jenkins, James Laurinaitis, and Alex Boone forgo millions of dollars in the NFL in order to try to repeat what Mike Doss did 6 years ago - return for their senior season to try to win a title.

Ohio State returns all of their key players on offense - Quarterback Todd Boeckman is back, however he may be looking over his shoulder at Freshman sensation Terrelle Pryor. Beanie Wells looks to build off of last year's dominant season - he's one of the leading candidates for both the Heisman and Doak Walker Awards. Both Brians, Hartline and Robiskie, are back as are Tight Ends Jake Ballard and Rory Nichol. The offensive line will replace outspoken leader Kirk Barton, who graduated and was drafted by the NFL Chicago Bears.

Defensively, the Buckeyes return all but 2 starters. Lawrence Wilson is back after breaking his leg in the first quarter of the first game last year. He'll anchor the line along with Cameron Heyward, Todd Denlinger, and Doug Worthington. James Laurinaitis returns, along with the equally talented Marcus Freeman, as well as newcomer Ross Homan.

The Defensive Backfield is just as formidable, with Malcolm Jenkins and Donald Washington at the corners and Anderson Russell and Kurt Coleman at safety.

Ohio State starts off with two cupcakes in Youngstown State and Ohio University, however it then travels to face #1 USC on September 13th in what looks to be the game of the year. Should the Buckeyes somehow manager to get by the Trojans, they could be in line for their third consecutive National Title Game. Hopefully for them, the third times a charm.
