Home Sweet Home

Game Report Posted: July 30, 2013 20:19

After consecutive weeks of giving up 40+ points to opposing offenses the Aztec defense stepped up and played dominate in the first half then held off a late Rebel rally in home opener for San Diego State.

Ole Miss (1-2) took the opening drive to the Aztec 40 when SS Eric Pinkston picked off Bo Wallace and raced down the sidelines 64 yards for the Aztec TD.

The Aztec D played lights out dominate D in the first half while the offense struggled for much of the game.

Adam Dingwell guided the offense throwing a td pass to Colin Lockett and also scored on a 11 yard scramble to ice the game.

Seamus McMorrow went 4/4 on field goals and was named player of the game by espn.

Putting It All Together

Game Report Posted: August 02, 2013 23:55

The first two games of the season the Offense carried the team. Last game the defense carried the first half and the offense did just enough to squeeze out the win.

Tonight it all came together as both sides of the ball played well in the 44-0 route of Utah.

Even without all everything back Adam Muema the Aztecs managed to pile up 203 yards rushing behind C. Price's 113 yards on 15 carries. Adam Dingwell was extremely efficient on the day going 21-26 219 yards and 4 td's connecting with Lockett 11 times for 132 yards and a td.

The Defense looked ready and prepared for the Utes no huddle and held the offense in check all night surrendering only 86 yards of total offense. They held Utah RB Kevin York to 70 yards of combined offense on 22 touches.

By far the best performance of the Year to date for Coach Morgan and his Aztecs.

Next Week the Aztecs travel to Los Angeles to face the USC Trojans. Kickoff is 8:00 pm

Thriller In Los Angeles

Game Report Posted: August 05, 2013 21:51

In a game where the winner takes early control of the Pac 14 South, the Aztecs came into the game at Trojan field feeling confident after last week's shutout victory over Utah.

Adam Dingwell stole the show completing 23-29 passes for 296 yards and 4 td's. Adam Muema added 90 yards and a td on the ground and also had 69 yards receiving and td.

The play of the game came with just 37 seconds left in the first half. Tre Madden took the handoff and tried to squeeze thru a hole but was met by mlb Jon Fely. Fely stripped the ball and the Aztecs recovered on the USC 32. One Play later Dingwell found HB Muema for the score that put the Aztecs up 21-14 going into the half.

Next Week the Aztecs return home for a non-conference matchup with the Red Wolves of Arkansas State

Aztecs 5-1 at the halfway point

Game Report Posted: August 08, 2013 19:15

The Aztecs came out with purpose and attitude in their 41-10 win over Arkansas State.

In what turned out to be a good tune-up for this weeks contest with Washington The Aztecs had a chance to test their depth against a quality D1 opponent and prepare for the visiting Huskies.

Its Time to look back on the first half highlights of the 2013 season.

Offensive MVP- A no brainer here. Adam Dingwell has been the catalyst behind the Aztec attack. Throwing for over 1400 yards and 14 Td's to 1 int all while completing 70% of his passes. Dingwell has also been a surprising threat on the ground rushing for 4 Td's.

Honorable mention- Adam Muema- 587 yards rushing 7 td's
Colin Lockett- 450 yards receiving 6 td's

Defensive MVP- This one was a lot tougher to decide. A patchwork defense at the beginning of the year. This unit has improved week after week and is starting to become a respectable defense.
I decided on Co MVP's Nat Berhe- 30 solo tackles an Int and the leader of the defense. The cool calm and collected to the Co MVP Jake Fely- the fiery undersized mlb with 25 solo tackles 8 for loss and 4 sacks. It took him a few weeks to adjust to the new scheme and to get off blocks but he has adjusted and been a key cog to the Aztecs resurgance.

Plays of the half year. No 1. King Holder's INT in overtime against Oklahoma State to seal the upset. It set the tone for the year. These Aztecs just keep fighting.
No. 2. Eric Pinkston's 64 yard INT return for Td against Ole Miss. A week after the loss against Mizzou it looked like the Rebels were driving down the field for the opening score when Pinkston jumped a slant route and raced down the sideline for the TD that set the tone for the game and possibly turned the season around.

Game of the year (so far). Another easy one to pick here. The season opener for the Aztecs at Oklahoma State. The #16 ranked Cowboys were double digit favorites over the Aztecs. In a game that featured 3 overtimes and over 1000 yards of total offense. Adam Dingwell threw for 354 yards and 2 TD's finding Colin Lockett 7 times for 113 yards and a TD. Adam Muema had 22 carries for 174 yards and 3 tds on the ground in the 49-41 win. The Aztecs were finally able to get to the Cowboy QB in overtime and finally forced a mistake that King Holder intercepted to end the game.

So at the halfway point in the season the Aztec's find themselves all alone in first place and looking to contend in their first year in the PAC-14
