Neutral Site Game Announced
Season Report Posted: October 12, 2013 07:26
Earlier this week, the Conference USA and the Sun Belt Conference announced a neutral site game featuring two teams from each conference respectively. The C-USA will send South Alabama while the Sun Belt will send the surprising Texas State Bobcats. Texas State finished 2016 in the 25th spot for the first time in program history. South Alabama had started the season 5-2 and went 1-4 in the final 5 games. Both leagues have determined that the game will be held at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, LA. Texas State will be the host team due to final polling and conference championship. The game will be held on August 27, 2017 and televised on ESPNU.

As the South Alabama Jaguars started a stellar run of 5-2 to begin the season, they eventually went 1-4 in their final 5 games. Dropping three straight to FCS foe Jacksonville State, Army, and eventual C-USA champ Southern Miss, Coach John Horst was left wondering what went wrong. "It felt magical" the fourth year coach said in an interview following the bowls. "We were finally there." "RJ (Franklin) played great. But somehow after that bye week, we fell off." As these seniors depart without a bowl apperance, the next seniors from Horst's first and so far best recruit class will look to add a bowl win to their resume. Jr QB RJ Franklin looks to add more to his record career. A bowl win will surely cap off his stellar 4-year run starting every game at QB since being a true freshman. "If anything blame me." he said. "I owed it to those seniors to get us to a bowl game and we fell 4 points short of it." "I promise to be the best at my position and i will put my soul on the line for these guys plain and simple" If the magic is there for Coach Horst it sure is being shown in this incoming recruit class bringing in a top 40 recruit class since the 2014 class. This end season collapse by the Jags showed that this season proved to be too much. If anything it also strengthened them.
