MINERS DESTROY BOBCATS

February 20, 2020

Game Report Posted: February 20, 2020 21:23

The miners were back in action today against Texas State. They won handily 77-27, this was the most points given up by the miner defense this year so that's a bit of a let down for this team who had been dominating on both sides of the ball throughout the year. However, all good runs must come to an end. This team will come out of this poor performance on defense. Offensively the miners were led by Chad Roberson the freshmen running back dominated the bobcat's defense rushing and receiving for 200 total yards and 5 Td's. The defense was dominated by Jonte Kirklin who racked up 11 tackles on the day including 3 TFL's and also had an Int return for a Td. This team is really gelling together and starting to create an absolute habit on both sides of the ball. We caught up with Coach Konz after the game and he left us with these parting words, "How bout them, Miners. Today we struggled on the defensive side of the ball so that was something new for us. We will get back into the swing of things this week and get the gold product back on the field that we are used to seeing."

The Miners started the 2016 season with a rematch of the 2015 AutoZone Liberty Bowl against Tennessee. The Volunteers won the matchup in 2015, however, they were not able to win the rematch. UTEP gave up 17 points in the first half due to some growing pains in the defensive secondary. Coach Konz went into the half down 17-14. The Miners came out in the second half with the halftime adjustments installed by Coach Konz and dominated the game. UTEP finished the game with quite possibly a dynasty low in passing with 190 yards. They relied on their rushing attack of Terrell, Fields, and Roberson to propel them to the victory. We finished the game with an AYPC of 6.68. The fourth season under Coach Konz's tutelage is surely living up to the hype, hoping to get back to the BCS National Championship where we were only two short seasons ago. GO, MINERS!!!

MINERS' ROLLING

The offense came out tonight against Western Kentucky absolutely on FIRE. At the half, the score of the game was 38-0 Miners' ahead. Terrell looked like his former self from his freshman season and put up astronomical numbers throwing the rock all over the yard of 388 yards and 5 TDs. He threw four of these touchdowns to his #1 receiving threat Ke'Von Ahmad. Ahmad ended the game with 9 rec for 215 yards and 4 scores. The defense gave up the usual 17 points in the second half, but Coach Konz was extremely pleased with the effort and the focus for this game after coming off a victory over the #19 Tennessee Volunteers two weeks ago. After the game, we caught up with Coach Konz and he gave us the following post-game quote, "We started out really fast tonight, which is something different for this team when compared to last years. This is a really special group of men we have at this school and we are going places.

MINER'S WIN THE BATTLE OF I-10

Game Report Posted: February 14, 2020 00:35

The Miners' offense came out on absolute fire this week against New Mexico State. Offensively they were lead by true freshmen running back Chad Roberson who ran the ball 17 times for only 78 yards but had 5 touchdowns. Terrell manned the passing attack once again throwing for over 300 yards, the majority of those yards yet again going to stud WR Ke' Von Ahmad. On the defensive side of the ball, the Miners were led by true Sophomore LOLB Rashaad Johnson. Johnson had 10 tackles on the day and 7 of those tackles were for a loss. Once again our reporter caught up with Coach Konz after the game and he gave this quote, "Tonight we got a sight of only the good things that yet to come for this program. When you have two underclassmen leading you on both sides of the ball, not only is that good for the competition factor in practice, but it also goes to show recruits that we put the best players on the field at every position no matter the age. Come join us and prove yourself if you think you are worthy to be on the field from the get-go."

MINERS ROUT LOBOS

Game Report Posted: February 14, 2020 04:50

UTEP came out today and played one of the best games in Coach Konz's tenure here at UTEP. The defense was absolutely stifling, I have never seen this Miners' defensive unit fly around to the ball and make as many plays in one game as they did against New Mexico. This game was almost a guaranteed victory for the Miners but they showed up to this game with the mentality that they were going to absolutely dominate the whole 32 minutes of football played. Offensively the Miners were led by sophomore quarterback Anthony Terrell who has been turning the ball over more as of late, which should be a concern for this coaching staff. However, offensively we were also able to do about whatever we wanted against New Mexico. Roberson had only 12 carries but had 140 yards and found paydirt twice in this contest. Defensively, the Miners were led by senior defensive lineman Dedrick Simpson, Simpson has been a staple in this defense for the past several seasons so it was very pleasing to see him have the breakout game he had to send this senior class off the right way at the end of the year.
