Cavs dominate Eagles in Hattiesburg

Virginia beat the Southern Miss Golden Eagles, 62-20 in Hattiesburg. For the first time, senior running back Mikell Simpson rushed for under 200, running 10 times for 70 yards and no touchdowns. But the passing game was on. Coach Fleming played four quarterbacks today. Senior Vic Hall went 7 for 11 and put up 173 yards and one touchdown pass. Senior Jameel Sewell went 3 of 6 with 71 yards and a touchdown pass. That touchdown pass coming on an amazing hook and ladder. Jared Green caught the ball, then pitched to Kris Burd for a 58 yard touchdown. Verica and Smalls went 4 of 8 for 66 yards and 5 of 8 nfor 72 yards respectively. Verica also threw one touchdown pass. On the defensive side of the ball, Rodney McLeod led all tacklers with eight. Chase Minnefield and Ras-I Dowling each had interception return for touchdowns.

Virginia destroyed the Horned Frogs of TCU by a score of 42-14. TCU was heavily favored in their trip to Charlottesville, sporting one of the nation's best defenses. But the Hoos didn't let that bother them. Once again, senior running back Mikell Simpson rushed for well over 200 yards and put two in the endzone. Senior receiver Dontrelle Inman and senior quarterback Vic Hall also rushed for a touchdown a piece. Hall also threw for 92 yards on 8 of 14 passing. Senior quarterback Jameel Sewell went 5 of 8 passing for 53 yards and a touchdown pass. The defense shut down TCU and held the Horned Frogs to 179 yards of total offense. The Cav's defense intercepted quarterback Yogi Gallegos three times and Andy Dalton once. Senior corner Dom Joseph had 2 of those interceptions, Safety Chris Cook had one and safety Curtis Mosley had one, which he returned 78 yards for a score in the opening drive of the game.

Virginia beats Air Force Academy 38-24 behind a record breaking day by senior running back Mikell Simpson. Simpson rushed for a school record 241 yards. He had one rushing touchdown. Senior quarterback Vic Hall went 13-17 for 70 yards and a touchdown pass. He also rushed for one score. The first half ended when Air Force attempted a long field goal that went short. Freshman safety Perry Jones caught the ball six yards deep and took it all the way back for a score. Sophomore Kris Burd lead all receivers with four catches, 31 yards and one touchdown.
