Akron held on to a one point win to beat Texas Tech in the Little Caesar's bowl thanks to a missed field goal by Tech in the final seconds of the game.

Playing in their last game for Akron both Frank Ingram and Aaron McDonald came up big for the Zips offense and they helped secure the first bowl win for an Akron program who had never won a bowl game during their run as an FBS program.

McDonald sends Akron past Bowling Green

Aaron McDonald provided the senior leadership required to send the Akron Zips (8-4) past the Bowling Green Falcons (3-9) 24-21. The passing game fueled the Zips offense as they racked up more than 360 yards in passing while the Akron defense held Bowling Green to 271 yards in total offense.

Still the game was close, and in the last minute it looked like the Falcon offense was going to pull off the upset when they hooked up on an 88 yard pass for a touchdown only to have the play called back for a holding call which sealed the win for Akron and moved their record to 8-4 and finishing their conference record over .500 for the first time in over ten years.

The running game, normally the backbone for the Zips offense was held to 59 yards on the ground on 31 attempts. "Credit the Bowling Green defense, especially the linebackers as we weren't able to get anything going in the run game. They played really tough. I'm just really proud of the way how McDonald stayed within himself, made good decisions and was still able to move the ball down field," said Coach Hutchinson.

The Zips faithful now turn their attention towards the post season as fans and the athletic administration wait to see what bowl awaits their future. Sources indicate that currently the team is looking at either an invite to the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl in Boise or the Military Bowl in Washington, DC, although with another week of games left and the championship week following things at this point are up in the air.
