UAPB vs. Wake Forest

September 2, 2014

Game Report Posted: November 14, 2008 17:56

Halterman Suspended: DT Curtis Halterman (C discipline) suspended 3 games for perks received at a local store. Halterman is a reserve DT.

Playbook Change: UAPB has adopted the UTEP playbook for the season. (The reason is that when I started up the Army microdynasty, the profile 1 playbook overwrote the UAPB playbook.)

Pine Bluff did nothing in this game. Every aspect of the UAPB game looked bad. The onl bright spots were LB Norton Wewers' interception in the end zone to stifle another Wake score, and Jerry Mock's relentless efforts at SS.

0-1 UAPB at 1-1 #24 Missouri

The Tigers were ranked #15 in preseason but a narrow loss to #22 Illinois dropped them in the polls.

DT Curtis Halterman is still out for academic reasons.

Pine Bluff looked strong in the first half but Mizzou put the pedal to the metal in the second half and left the Lions dusted. I didn't know it until after the game but Mizzou's QB is the top rated QB in the NCAA (95 ovr) and is only a sophomore. HB Chris Hoyte would have been the second 91-ovr HB we've faced in two weeks, except he went out with injury on his first kick return.

Discipline: SS Jerry Mock, our highest rated defensive back, has a D discipline rating and finally got busted outsourcing his exams. He's benched for 3 games. We'll miss him....

Or not! Freshman Rendall Garrett filled in more than capably, leading the defense with 8 tackles as UAPB came up with two big plays to pull away from a 7-7 tie.

Pine Bluff's afflicted cornerback Delvin Yeck picked off a Pirate pass attempt in overtime to seal the win for UAPB. Coach Korenpeck wasted no time as he kicked the ensuing field goal on first down. Prior to overtime the teams had traded the lead about six times.

A slugfest, a slogfest, a hogfest. Pouring rain and high winds made for an ugly, turnover-riddled game. Pine Bluff eschewed two early field goals near the goal line and regretted the lost opportunities. But UAPB staked out a 9-0 halftime lead that expanded on the only long drive of the day by either team, and on Bredon's interception return.

UAPB vs. Marshall 23 Oct 2014

Game Report Posted: June 19, 2009 22:54

LG Vance Ellerbee is still recovering from a bruised shoulder.

Recruiting: 3 prospects were in the stands.

UAPB defense stifled two early Marshall drives. Safety Dustin Evans picked a pass in the end zone to stop the first, and LB Norton Wewers jumped a little middle route at the end of the first quarter.

Dramatics in the 4th quarter. SS Bailey intercepted a bad Bordwell pass and returned it to the UAPB ten. On the next play though LB Paul Givens nabbed a bad Mullins pass to take possession away. Late in the game, Calvin Hood picked a bad Mullins throw in our territory to seal the win.

Pine Bluff's offense had its moments, especially from a few option plays, but was inconsistent during the night. UAPB defense was what carried the day.

After the game: no prospects signed. We lost Missouri prospect Danny Pennington, the #8 OLB with good/good potential/discipline.

One of the top rushing offenses in the country takes on one of the worst as the Knights gear up for the arrival of the Bluffies. Thoong Thormodsgard sits on the sidelines with a severe abdominal strain.

With UTEP's abysmal defense, most folks rate this an easy W for UAPB. But Bluffie followers know this year nothing is as it seems.

No standards issues today. LG Vance Ellerbee still nurses a bruised shoulder.

UAPB pulled out to a commanding halftime lead. The second half was supersimmed.

Rain greeted the Bluffies as they stepped off the bus in Memphis.

Paul Givens blocked the first field goal in forever at 6:27 of the 2nd qtr. The Memphis left tackle had to choose between Givens and the looping blitzer, and chose the latter. Givens had a free shot at the ball and a clean block at the 24 yard line.

Pine Bluff held off the feisty Tigers to close out conference play with only the lone loss to UCF.

UAPB's team NCAA interest meter is holding in the low end of the range. Fortunately we haven't had any more discipline problems since the one guy we couldn't punish.

The teams today are evenly matched except Pine Bluff has a slightly better defense, even without our free safety Dustin Evans. Cincinnati has struggled to a 3-7 season and have lost their primary quarterback Callahan. The Lions are closing out a solid 7-4 campaign.

There was a steady pouring rain today in Pine Bluff that I did not notice on my old gen TV until late in the game.... Cincinnati's normal starting QB Callahan was on the bench with an injury. Backup Stover was knocked out of the game under UAPB's relentless pressure. Third stringer Baldwin looked good but took many sacks.

1-5 UAB at 3-3 Pine Bluff

Out today are Thoong with an ab strain and Delvin Yeck with a team rules violation. Yeck's suspension unfortunately means that Pine Bluff is down to its last few points. Birmingham is likewise missing a couple of players for the game, which begins under clear night skies with a howling crosswind.

Pine Bluff took command in the second half when they learned to stunt the defensive line wide to contain Jefferson's scrambles. He was not nearly as accurate in the pocket as on the run.

Fortunately we have had no more team discipline infractions since (the game after the Rutgers game?). NCAA Team Interest is not zero, but it did remain low. We end the year with one discipline point left.

The only team member who is not available to play is starting free safety Dustin Evans, out with a torn shoulder. His backup, freshman Morris McConnell, put monster hits on several receivers in the Cincinnati game.

HB Aaron Williams wants jersey #47, and I promised it to him.
MLB Derek Freeman wants #88, and I did not promise to him.

Out for the game are Thor (injury) and SS Lance Bredon (suspension).

Tackle Vassar Ellerbee left the game with a serious shoulder injury.

The Rutgers secondary got their hands on 14 pass attempts.

After the game, [Marlin Wiser], the #1 OLB prospect in the nation, committed to Pine Bluff. [Wiser] is an unusual signee in that he comes with a poor discipline record [Poor], so the Bluff is taking a real chance on him.
