Ball State Upsets #1 Georiga

Game Report Posted: September 29, 2008 03:53

What a way to start off the 2008 season with the number 1 team going down. On Saturday Ball State upset #1 Georiga in Georiga 45-27. The game was close the whole game until the 4th quarter. Ball State got on the board first with a 10 yard run by Freshman Quarterback Marcus Williams but Georiga answered quickly with a 73 yard pass from Todd to Thompson. Williams got another rushing touchdown as he took it in for 1 yard to take a 14-7 lead. After the first drive it looked like Georiga was going to tear apart the Cardinals defense but they stepped it up holding Georiga to a field goal as they cut it to 14-10. The Cardinals later added 3 points with a 41 yard field goal by Williams to increase the lead to 7 but Georiga again drove down the field to tie the game up with a 5 yard touchdown pass by Todd with a min remaining. With 50 seconds left in the 2nd quarter Ball State wanted to put more points on the board but Williams made his only mistake of the game as he threw a pick and Georiga scored by another pass by Todd to take the lead 24-17 at half. The Cardinals got the ball to start the half and Williams scored his 3rd rushing Touchdown on the day taking it in from 9 yards out. Again the Cardinals Defense could not find an answer for Todd as they drove down the Field and added a Field goal taking the lead by 3 but thats all they would score for the rest of the game as Williams got 2 more rushing Touchdowns and then finally getting a passing touchdown with 3 minutes remaining in the 4th to secure the victory. Georiga's Defense could not stop Freshman Quarterback Marcus Williams, he threw for 306 yards and 192 yards rushing
