Cricket Spiders pick up 2009 where they left off 2008

Game Report Posted: February 06, 2009 03:33

FRANKLIN, Tn - (AP) The Belvidere Cricket spiders took advantage of two Pick 6 turnovers and clicked on all cylinders on offense en route to a 26-6 throbbing on Friday night at D1 Sports in Franklin.

Andy Bozeman, back for another season at the QB position for the Cricket Spiders franchise, was almost perfect throwing for 109 yards and 4 TDs on the night. Cary Hayes, Jay Pettus, and John Taylor all were on the receiving end of Bozeman TD tosses.

Defensively the Cricket Spiders were dominant to say the least. Other than one big play in the first half. The defense was led by the outstanding play of veteran Adam Abood. Abood decided to come out of retirement this season after one year away from the game. He finished the game with two interceptions.

Cricket Spiders Hang On for Victory

FRANKLIN, Tn - (AP) In a rematch from last year's NSL Flag Football Championship, the Belvidere Cricket Spiders were able to hang on to an early 12-0 lead to defeat They Hate Us by a final score of 12-7.

After holding THU to a three and out on their first possession, Belvidere had a quick scoring drive to go up 6-0. Two quick passes to John Taylor in the middle of the THU defense set up QB Andy Bozeman to hit Jay Pettus for the 6 yard score. After neither team could muster any offense for the remainder of the first half, the Cricket Spiders hit their stride on the first possession of the second half. After a 25 yard pass to Taylor, and a 5 yard rush by Jamie Miller, Bozeman tried to hit Pettus in the back of the end zone. The ball was tipped into the air, but luckily, Miller was able to corral the errant pass and get both feet down in the back right corner of the end zone for the score putting the Cricket Spiders up 12-0.

They Hate Us would not go without a fight. Late in the second half, after scoring their first TD of the night on a 9 yard pass to "Mr. Gold Cleats," THU held the Cricket Spiders to another three and out. With only seconds remaining, THU drove to the Cricket Spiders 15 yard line. On the last play of the game, Cary Hayes batted down what would have been the game winning score and the Cricket Spiders narrowly escaped with the win.

In what is becoming a heated rivalry, the Cricket Spiders improve to 3-0 against They Hate Us. The last two wins against THU have come by batting down a pass in the end zone on the last play of the game. Up next for the Cricket Spiders is the D1 Rookies. Game time is 7:15 on Friday.

Total Domination

FRANKLIN, Tn - (AP) Jamie Miller took an interception to the house on the first play of the game and the Belvidere Cricket Spiders never looked back en route to a 33-0 thrashing of MWS Construction Friday night.

The Cricket Spiders' defense did not allow MWS to gain a single yard or to even complete one pass on the night. The defense was led by defensive backs Jamie Miller and Jay Pettus who each totaled 3 interceptions and one score a piece.

On offense, Belvidere only had 44 yards of offense due to such excellent field position throughout the game. QB Andy Bozeman only totaled 9 yards passing on two completions, however both went for scores. Stepping in at QB late in the game was back-up Jay Pettus. Pettus had a strong showing in mop-up duty connecting on both of his pass attempts during the game, one of which went for a score. Pettus also added a 5 yd receiving TD to earn game MVP honors. A close second in MVP voting for this game was Jamie Miller with his 3 interceptions.
