Trouble at the Top

September 7, 2016

Season Report Posted: December 19, 2016 15:54

With two weeks finished in the newest season of college football, we already can see the effects of conference realignment. #1 Alabama suffered a loss at #22 Louisville and dropped to #9 in the most recent poll. Likewise Michigan dropped from #7 to #19 after faltering against unranked Minnesota.

The most significant effect comes in the matchups we have upcoming. Already with one loss, Alabama must travel to Death Valley to take on the #1 Clemson Tigers who will prove to be a formidable opponent. As well, #2 Oklahoma takes on #13 Houston and #3 Florida State faces #7 Tennessee. We're excited to see how the matchups become closer and the games have higher stakes.

C-USA Opener for Colorado

September 13, 2016

Weekly Report Posted: December 19, 2016 16:08

This week sees the Buffaloes traveling to Fresno State to take on the Bulldogs, looking to improve to 3 - 0 on the season. The Bulldogs do not have many impact players but any home game is sure to be a boost for a team that defeated Rutgers 45-17 last week.

The key to victory for the Buffaloes will be to take advantage of the weak front 7 that the Bulldogs put out there with a tough running game. Sefo Liufau should have all day to pass and we can expect a 200+ yard game for him. That number would be higher, but Fresno State has lots of speed in its corner positions.

Players to Watch:

Senior LOLB Jeff Camili - 84 OVR

Junior HB Dontel James - 80 OVR

Senior (RS) WR Aaron Peck - 80 OVR

Colorado Steals One in Denver

September 1, 2016

Game Report Posted: December 13, 2016 21:36

Colorado inches past their rivals CSU in the Rocky Mountain Showdown at Mile High Stadium. Colorado took an early lead but a late surge before halftime saw CSU tie the game in the 3rd quarter.

Both teams had their fair share of mishaps, an interception at the goalline by Sefo Liufau and 3 INTs from CSU QB Nick Stevens.

The highlight of the game was when Liufau found Bryce Bobo on a deep ball to the end zone late in the 2nd quarter. The pass was put in a spot only Bobo could reach and with a diving catch he secured the 30-yard touchdown!

As was expected, OLB Deonte Clyburn for CSU had a monster game, racking up 4 tackles, 2 for a loss, and a sack. A surprising player was HB Dalyn Dawkins who rushed for 93 yards on 18 carries, leading to a 5 yard average. His consistency in the run and pass game kept Colarado reeling all game.

Utes Limp Out of Boulder

September 8, 2016

Game Report Posted: December 14, 2016 04:23

Hostility abounds in Boulder as Colorado knocks of rival Utah 31-17. A back and forth affair in the first half as Utah held a 17-10 advantage AND received the opening kickoff of the 2nd half. However, Colorado's defense was the story of the 2nd half as they shut out the Utes and forced QB Troy Williams into making poor throws constantly.

With how many sacks there were (13 total) one would've thought it would be a low-scoring affair. However, due to the impressive escapability of Sefo Liufau the Buffaloes were able to extend plays for 15+ yard gains after the defense broke down.

Sean Irwin came up big, with 106 yards on 10 receptions. All in all, the Buffaloes were able to come away with a big win because their offense was able to break through the stout Utah defense.

2nd Rivalry Game in a Row for Colorado

September 7, 2016

Weekly Report Posted: December 14, 2016 02:15

The Utah Utes come to town to face the Buffaloes in this Week 2 matchup. The Buffaloes are coming off a neutral site victory over Colorado State while the Utes are playing in their first game of the 2016-17 season. As a MWC team, Utah will be a formidable opponent for the Buffaloes especially with their stout front 7. It will be interesting to see if Colorado can rush through their strong defensive line.

Key Players to Watch:

Senior RB Joe Williams - 86 OVR

Senior (RS) RE Hunter Dimick - 93 OVR

Junior DT Lowell Loutulelei - 94 OVR

Macintyre on the Hot Seat in Colorado

August 10, 2016

Season Report Posted: December 13, 2016 17:17

Entering the 4th year of his 5-year contract, Colorado head coach Mike Macintyre is under a lot of pressure from the athletic department to produce results. Over the past 3 seasons he has gone 5-7, 3-10, and 1-11. If he cannot turn this program around quickly, then his next job may be at another program.

Hopefully the new conference realignment will help him out, as Colorado is now placed in the C-USA W, a much weaker division than the old PAC-12. Time will only tell.

College Football Landscape Shakes Up

July 13, 2016

Season Report Posted: December 13, 2016 17:12

As many have become tired of the way conferences are set up in FBS college football, the league has decided to turn towards a relegation style for all conferences starting with the 2016-2017 season.

The country is going to be divided into 4 national regions (Northeast, Central, Southeast, and West), with 4 tiers in each. The champion from each tier moves up and the last place team gets demoted. A promoted or demoted team is then locked in for 3 years. However, a team in the preseason top 25 will always be placed in the elite tier.

Elite tiers (12 teams): ACC, Big 12, SEC, PAC-12
High tiers (10 teams): MAC, Big 10, AAC, MWC
Medium tiers (6 teams): Sun Belt NE, C-USA C, Sun Belt SE, C-USA W
Low tiers (4 or 3 teams): IND NE, IND C, IND SE, IND W

Bowl tie-ins are:

Rose Bowl: ACC vs. PAC-12
Fiesta Bowl: Big 12 vs. SEC
Orange Bowl: Big 10 vs. AAC
Sugar Bowl: MAC vs. MWC
