2007 Week 1

In front of a sell out crowd in Lane Stadium last saturday, the ECU Pirates were able to defeat the previously 9th ranked team in the nation 14-9. Trailing 6-0 at the half, the Pirates defense was able to come out and force a fumble on the Hokies opening play of the second half. Juwon Crowell's catch on 3rd and 12 that kept the ECU drive alive may have beent he play of the game, as it allowed for Chris Johnson so score his first of what would be two touchdowns on the day. The Offense was out gained 180 to 272 in total yards of offense, but still found a way score more then the Hokies. The Defense was able to sack Glennon 3 times as well as force two turnovers. The defense also forced the Hokies to settle for 3 FG's while in the redzone and came away with a 4th quarter goalline stand on the 3 yardline to seal the game for the Pirates. Pat Pinkney would finish the game 11-16 for 104 yards and 3 INT's all of which come in the first half. The defense was led by senior Emanuel Davis who tallied 8 Solo tackles and forced 1 fumble.

In other news, the Pirates were able to sign there first in-season recruit of the year in that of 1 star kicker James Bass, the 6'0'' 171 lbs senior from Centreville, Virginia will be graduating early and plans on joining the team for the spring semester and will battle for the starting spot with sophmore Ben Hartman.

Saturdays game against the North Carolina Tar Heels (1-0) will be the ECU Pirates home opener so be sure to come out show your pirate pride. The game will kickoff around 6:00 PM and will be televised on ESPN 2. Also dont forget while at the stadium to tune into 93.7 "The Rock" to listen to play by play man Ben King and ECU great Jeff Blake.
