Tigers Win Ugly In The Mud

Game Report Posted: November 29, 2008 20:28

The Grambling State Tigers close out their season with an ugly win against the Mississippi Stags 56-38. Giving up 8 turnovers, the Tigers didn't deserve to win the game but were just too much for the Stags to contain. In particular, WR turned QB Matt Ward who rushed for 235 yards and 3 TD.

The Tigers front four was again tough, compiling 12 sacks, completing the regular season as the overall team sacks leader.

Grambling State Wins A Wild One

Game Report Posted: November 28, 2008 08:49

8 Turnovers by the winning team? 121 total points in the game? Almost 2000 total yards of offense combined? Was this a game or a defensive nightmare? The Tigers almost lose it against a still winless Jackson State.

Tigers Defense Breaks Record In Big Win

Game Report Posted: November 29, 2008 17:09

The Grambling State defense has been getting better and better each week. They proved themselves the best defense ever, at least statistically, Saturday by racking up 23 sacks and breaking the single game mark by 3. FS Derek Leak led the charge, breaking the individual game mark as well, with 8 sacks.

The return of team captain, QB John Ellis, was short lived for the Tiger faithful as he broke his shoulder on his first pass of the game and will be out for the remainder of the season. QB Robert Davis filled in for the injured captain but his time was also short lived as Coach Hanks took him out early in the game, once again adopting his WR at QB game plan. WR Matt Ward manned the Grambling State offense and ran the option, only attempting 3 passes, but rushing for 224 yards and 4 TD in the win.

Despite 6 Turnovers, Tigers Run To Victory

Game Report Posted: November 27, 2008 13:28

After giving up 5 turnovers in the first half and down 28-14 at the break, Coach Hanks was forced to do the unthinkable while trailing. He all but abandoned the passing game. Due to an early injury to backup QB Robert Davis, who is filling in for the injured starter Jason Ellis, the Coach was forced to put in a WR at the QB position. Freshman Matt Ward gave up his redshirt eligibility for the year by playing in this game, but after rushing for 206 yards and leading the team to victory, I don't think he will mind. With the change at QB and with Ward's limited passing range, the Tigers were left with very few passing options. So Coach Hanks told his men to run the ball. And they did to the tune of 336 yards and four TD and their sixth victory on the season.

Despite the Win, Grambling State Loses

Game Report Posted: November 23, 2008 04:05

Grambling State walks away from their game with Alabama State as the victor 45-42, but they lose both QB J. Ellis and FB G. Lilly for four weeks with injuries. R. Davis filled in nicely at QB, throwing for 178 yards and 1 TD, leading the Tigers to the win. Can he repeat this performance for the next few weeks and pull GSU to the top of the Big Ten pack? Only time will tell. Today was a good start, but every week will be a challenge.

The defense came up with 14 sacks, with Freshman SS D. Leak racking up 5 on his own. If the defense can keep this up, it will surely make the offense feel much better until Ellis can return.

Grambling State loses a heartbreaker 40-34

Game Report Posted: November 22, 2008 15:52

Going into the last minutes of the fourth quarter, it looked like the Grambling State Tigers were about to pull an upset. Up 34-27 with less than two minutes to go, the game seemed to be in hand. After South Carolina State returned the ensuing kickoff for a TD, the game was once again deadlocked. The Tigers were driving down the field, putting themselves within position to kick the game winning field goal when the improbable happened. Sure headed QB J. Ellis threw an interception on the 2 yard line and it was returned all the way for a TD to give the #24 ranked South Carolina State Bulldogs the come from behind win.

Tigers throw their way to defeat.

Game Report Posted: November 02, 2008 15:47

The Tigers knew they would have to play an almost perfect game to have a chance against Tennessee State. 9 turnovers later (6 being interceptions by QB J. Ellis) and the outcome is obvious. Tigers lose 30-7 at home and shame Coach Eddie Robinson in his stadium.
