Vandals close out year on a Positive Note!

November 30, 2013

Game Report Posted: May 04, 2016 07:22

Albequerque NM - Idaho Vandals Head Coach Mike Blackwell quickly assembled his team in their locker room for the last post-game speech of the year. A 4-8 record might not be much for most programs across the country, but for the University of Idaho Football Team that doubles the combined win total from the last three seasons.

"We're proud to have our leaders begin new traditions," Blackwell said to his team. "We have proven that Idaho Football does belong in the FBS and in the Sun Belt," he continued.

The Sun Belt will be the big test as Idaho will look to see it's strength of schedule increase. The Conference will also put bowl eligibility back on the plate. The Sun Belt passed through all final paperwork and officially declared the University of Idaho a conference member on Thursday.

Many students were teary eyed as they looked to see many of their elder brethren leave football forever. There are no potential professional players from rhe UofI in this years NFL draft.

Senior Danny Morton said, "it has been an honor leading you guys. The past few months has taught me more about what it takes to succeed. That's not something I thought was possible with Idaho Football until recently."

Patrick Wright, Stephen Thomas, and Andrew Watkins had big smiles and seemed to be taking in the ambiance one last time.

100 Points Scored - Vandals Lose By a Deuce!

September 21, 2013

Game Report Posted: April 26, 2016 05:47

Cougars Head Coach Ryan Higgins said on FoxSports-Washington that, "the Battle for Palouse is always tough without fail!" He was right. Idaho, who had looked poor in it's first weeks of action got out to an early start.

The story of the game was passing. All passing. Danny Morton was hot early in the first quarter. Which only saw Matt Kirk match the ferocity of touchdowns. At halftime, Vandals holding on to a 28-17 lead.

With neither team playing much defense, the 28-17 surely wouldn't remain that way for another two quarters.

The third quarter allowed Washington State to come into striking distance, but the hill to overcome the Vandal's was steep. With a fourth quarter 25 point run, the Washington State Cougars set one of the most historic comebacks in Rivalry and School History.

Vandal's Open with N. Texas

August 23, 2013

Weekly Report Posted: April 30, 2016 11:44

The Vandal's have their hands full visiting Denton, TX for week 1. The offense must score as many points as possible in hopes to out pace the Mean Green. Vandal's Coach Mike Blackwell brings in the Flash16 offense and hopes to use senior weapons this season to help revitalize a program with only two bowl trips in the school's history.

HB Patrick Wright (I) SR needs to have a successful season; with at least 800 yards on the year, if the Vandal's hope o be better than the meager 1-win season from a year ago.

WR Stephen Thomas is the talented wide out that is likely to be an All-American and have a monster stats year if Coach Blackwell's system is as explosive as sports pundits say.

UNT QB Brandon Foster should have a record day against the worst defense in NCAA FBS.

The Mean Green's JR HB Cedric Kimbrough should easily run through the line for what be a individual 200-yard game.

2013 Team Outlook

August 14, 2013

Season Report Posted: April 20, 2016 18:15

Senior quarterback Danny Morton will lead the 2013 Vandals into battle this year sporting the strongest arm on the team. However, redshirt freshman Richie Dunbar is the heir apparent to the role and looks like he'll be making waves amongst Vandal Nation especially of Morton starts throwing picks.

The wide receiver core is the best squad overall on the field. If Idaho has any hopes of winning games, the receivers must be consistent. Seniors Stephen Thomas and Andrew Watkins look to lead the team and help Morton move the ball.

With a weak offensive line, the Vandal's running game will be hit and miss especially when quicker opposing defenses take the field. A split work load will surely come in to place for halfbacks Patrick Wright, J.J. Joseph and Ryan Brown.

Left end Mike Keith has his hands full. Look for this defense to help other teams set records. Defensive Coordinator Chris Estes, the 47 year load Syracuse alum, knows his job is on the line. The Vandal's have carried a lack-luster defense over from 2012 and any spark is greatly needed.

Drive - Focus

Game Report Posted: April 20, 2016 20:15

WEEK 2 WRAP UP

Napoleon Wallace seemed to be the story of the first quarter. Two touchdowns from the option that Idaho could not stop.

Swapped interceptions from both teams quarterbacks lead the second quarter. Then it became the Wallace and Brown show.

The defense, as predicted, was nowhere to be found. Stephen Thomas, WR-SR, joined in the scoring action, but it proved little too late to mount any sort of formidable response from the Vandal's.

Post Game - Huskies vs. Vandals

September 14, 2013

Game Report Posted: April 20, 2016 20:18

"Gavin Maxey obviously had a great game. We didn't do much to slow him down. Defense has been our focus since getting to Moscow. We're making strides, but there is still a lot of fundamental building that we are doing," said Coach Blackwell at the Post Game Press Conference.

He continued to say, "we'll regroup and move on to next week. Possibly work on limiting reps Danny takes in practice."

Vandal's Postgame

August 31, 2013

Game Report Posted: April 20, 2016 18:21

Jeff Miranda's North Texas squad played a solid game on both sides of the ball. Offensively, Kimbrough ran though behind a quality O-line, and Foster played flawlessly with only 1 incomplete pass.

The tandom ends of Keith and Dahl had exceptional games, but as a whole that side of the ball looked poor.
