The Brigham Young Cougars jumped to an early 21 - 10 first half lead against the visiting Las Vegas State Outlaws. In the second half the Outlaws outscored the Cougars 31 - 20 behind the fine running of freshman Braylon Jackson and timely passes by QB Joe Kingman. The offensive explosion forced the game into overtime. After both teams traded field goals in the first overtime frame and touchdown runs in the second, Las Vegas State fell just short of their pass attempt to force a foruth overtime.
Las Vegas State Rebounds Big TIme

Fans in Las Vegas are in for quite a ride if the season opener is any indication. The Outlaws fell behind quickly at home against the visiting Colorado State Rams. In fact they were down 20 - 7 after the first quarter as a result of poor ball security and even poorer tackling. Freshman RB Braylon Jackson darted through a hole on his second carry of the game for a gain of 12 but promptly fumbled the ball after being stood up by several Rams. Jackson showed great poise throughout the rest of the game as he completed his first college game with 119 total yards and three touchdowns. Fellow freshman Herman Garner led the Outlaws in receiving with 5 catches for 74 yards. The added weapons and the experience gained from last year and the offseason helped Joe Kingman look much more composed in the pocket as he found 7 receivers in the game.
While Kingman was sacked only once in the game, his counterpart, K Kubiak was under relentless pressure and sacked 4 times. The Outlaws defense also accumulated eight tackles for loss. It looks like freshman Bruce Richardson has what it takes to lead Las Vegas State making all the appropriate calls and shifts against a very good Colorado State offense.
