Cards Rally In The 4th To Beat Kentucky 35-50
The first game of the 2008 season had #12 Louisville wanting to answer many questions coming off of a second place finish in 2007 NCAA Standings.With SR QB Hunter Cantwell taking the place of graduate QB Brian Brohm everyone was asking can he produce like Brohm?Hunter Cantwell answered the question with 431 yards passing on 15 completed passes and 6 touchdowns despite being picked off 4 times.That was more than enough to send a message to doubting minds for games to come.The Cardinals also had to fill some big shoes with Heisman runner up candidate Harry Douglas graduated as well.Sr Mario Urrutia stepped up in a major way with 9 huge catches,278 yards receiving, 3 touchdowns and Player of the Game honors.
The Cardinals defense came to play with Defensive End Peanut Whitehead leading the way with 9 tackles and 4 bone crushing sacks."This was a big game being the instate rivalry and all."stated Peanut to a reporter after the game."I had to prove to everyone our defense is not the worse in the Nation."
The Cards Head Coach Moose Linville told the press"If we don't beat Kentucky year after year it's a slap in the face and we don't deserve to make a BCS Bowl game."Coach Linville was pleased with his teams overall performance and has high hopes of making it to the National Championship this season."We filled the gaps that left us with talent that was ready to play on game day."Coach Linville said to the press.Coach Linville did just that with freshman recruit Julio Jones scoring his first Cardinal career touchdown on a 28 yard pass from Hunter Cantwell into the endzone on a fly route."This is the reason I signed with Louisville. I Knew I would get to start early and knew that I would get passes thrown my way."Julio Jones told the press.
The Cardinals increased their win streak to 6 straight at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium and 6 overall in a row.Louisville will stay home to play Vanderbilt next week to start a home and home series.More News at a Later Date.
