UNC coach Corey Harvey led his first Tar Heels team onto the field in Columbia today to open the season with a statement.
He did just that.
In today's Clash of the Carolinas rivalry game, senior QB Aaron Woods led an opportunistic Tar Heels team to shut out the #8 Gamecocks 24-0, racking up a RAT of 82.1 and throwing for 156 yards against a tough South Carolina defense.
Harvey told the press that he hopes that this win sets the tone for the season for UNC. Next week, they'll have a bye week, before taking on the ECU Pirates at home and opening their ACC season in Atlanta the week after.

Sooner fans are already dreaming of next year after they were upset 27-24 by UL Monroe today.
In a game that saw All-American center Justin Williams taken out for 11 weeks, the Warhawks were able to move the ball successfully through the air with team captain Scott Dougherty and a clutch field goal late in the fourth quarter by Anderson to break the tie.
Oklahoma saw much success on the ground this afternoon with a whopping 274 yards in rushing, but it wasn't enough to stop the Warhawks who had 271 yards through the air with Dougherty racking up a RAT of 133.4.

As far as Western football goes, this was the game to watch this weekend. This game was predicted to be a thriller, with Boise State carrying the pride of the MWC on their back as they took the field at Husky Stadium.
Heading into the 4th quarter, the Huskies held a slight edge at 10-7. That's when Austin Rivers was able to find All-American TE Curtis Washington twice to end the game in a Washington win 24-10.
Boise HC Nick Brown tells us that the main reason for the Broncos' loss was a combination of Mr. Washington's athleticism and his guys losing the war of attrition. He says that his hopes are still high for a double digit win season and a MWC title.

Whenever two top ten teams meet in Week 1, an epic dogfight usually ensues, and this matchup between the #5 Georgia Bulldogs and the #9 Clemson Tigers in Death Valley was no exception.
Going into the fourth quarter, the score was 20-17 Dawgs. That's when Georgia senior QB Mark Griffin and Clemson's own senior QB John Carter decided to bust open the other team's defense.
The final score? 41-31, Georgia.
Mark Griffin earned player of the game in this one, throwing for a whopping 363 yards and finding the endzone 4 times. Carter earned an honorable mention, finding the endzone 3 times and throwing for 280 yards.
UGA HC Curtis Andrews hopes that the offense shown today will lead them to a win next week back home against SEC opponent South Carolina.
