Western Michigan (9-4) and Navy (8-4) have accepted invites to play in the Military Bowl. Western Michigan has impressive wins over Northern Illinois, Bowling Green and lost in the MAC championship in OT against Miami.

Navy travels to Notre Dame in the biggest game of the season for the Midshipmen. The Mids are playing their best football in years coming into this contest. Likewise, Notre Dame was on a 7 game streak before dropping to Purdue (28-35) one week prior. Navy will be without Senior QB, Eric Nelson, who had established himself as the clear starter before getting hurt in the Indiana contest. Sophomore Randall Bullock had another impressive game against Toledo, leading the Mids to a decisive victory.

As always, the pundits favor the Goliath, Notre Dame in this contest.

Week 7 News: Navy hosts another impressive opponent this week, the Toledo Rockets. The major headline for Navy is the injury to starting quarterback, Senior Eric Nelson (Morgantown, WV). He'll be out for several weeks due to an arm injury. With Nelson's injury, the starting duties are handed off to mega-athlete, sophomore Randall Bulluck.

Indiana - Navy survives 5 OT thriller. #17 Indiana drop to #24 in the nation after the lose. The Navy nation got their first glimpse of the Midshipmen's secret weapon, sophomore QB Randall Bullock who steam rolled for 5 TDs after starting QB Eric Nelson was lost for the season with a major injury.

Recruiting News: Navy received a commitment from Clay Close an athlete from Sans Souci, SC. Coles is considered a Green Gem prospect with tremendous speed.

The Navy defense adjusted and shut down their rivals for an impressive 23-10 victory in front of the home crowd.

NEW ORLEANS - Navy pulls the upset in a tight contest at Tulane. The Green Wave showcased a potent aerial attack (over 300 yards) but it was Navy's passing that won the game.

Senior quarterback, Eric Nelson (Morgantown, WV), excellent all season rushing the football, showed that he could throw the ball aswell. He connected on 3 touchdown passes to lift the Midshipmen.

ANNAPOLIS -- Navy exposed the South Carolina run defense, but the Gamecocks played a perfect game to sink the Mids. Navy rushed for an incredible 523 yards but made a few costly mistakes in the loss.

"The best thing about this game," the USC coach said, "is we won it and it's in our rearview mirror

Yes, South Carolina won (now ranked #6 in the polls), finishing with a solid fourth quarter. But it was clear from the faces on the sideline that this game didn't go quite as expected.

"We had some uncharacteristic mistakes that we don't normally have, and against a team like South Carolina you can't do that," Navy coach Alex Rivas said. "We knew coming into the game we had to play perfect and couldn't make turnovers or give up any big plays."

UCF Wins Close Battle - Booker out 10 weeks

The Midshipmen lost their season opener in a close game against the UCF Golden Knights. Last minute effort lifted the Golden Knights. Turnovers proved costly as the Mids had 2 fumbles that resulted in points for the visiting team. Adding to the defeat, sophomore fullback, Herbert Booker, was injured in the contest and is expected to out of action for a lengthy period.

Injury Report:
Herbert Booker (Soph) is out for 10 weeks due to a broken tailbone.

Pre-Season News: Admiral Mack Award

ANNAPOLIS, Md.- Rising sophomore nose guard Michael Potts (Mclean, VA) was named the winner of the Vice Admiral William P. Mack Award.

The Admiral Mack Award is presented to the most improved player during spring football drills as voted on by the coaching staff.

"Michael Potts had a great spring and the voting was near unanimous for the award," said Navy head football coach. "He really worked hard in the offseason and dropped the excess weight he was carrying and that hard work really paid off because he was a different football player in the spring. Michael is going to be a key player for us this fall."

The Admiral Mack Award was initiated in 1976 and is named in honor of Vice Admiral William P. Mack, the Naval Academy Superintendent from 1972-75, who was a strong supporter of the school's intercollegiate athletic program.
