UND 27, New Mexico State 6
Catlin Solum added 162 yards more to his season and 3 TDs in a 27-6 victory over NMSU. This is the second game in a row that UND has also not given up a TD. Senior Defensive Linemen Broc Bellmore and Chris Schaan each recorded a sack, among numerous amounts of pressure put on the Aggies QB. UND shutdown NMSU's All American WR, holding him to only 4 catches and 37 yards.
"We really have been dominating so far this season, and I only hope that this continues with tougher games down the road. So far our only real competition has been Oregon, we still have Boise State, Auburn and Nebraska on our schedule. It's hard to say we'll be able to pull 3 Oregons to stay undefeated, but I wouldn't count that out either. It will be interesting to see how things turn out." Said Coach Mussman in the post game press conference.
The Sioux take on a weak Utah State team next week, before heading to Boise.

Key Plays

UND improves to 3-0, 1-0 in the WAC

#16 UND 31, South Dakota 19
Catlin Solum had another big day rushing for a total of 192 yards and 2 Touchdowns in UND's victory over South Dakota, putting UND up 3-0 in the series. The Sioux were coming off a huge upset over 7th ranked Oregon, and now looked to beat rival South Dakota in their home opener. Boy, was it a success.
USD could not stop the rushing attack headed by Solulm and fellow Senior Halfback Mitch Sutton, who had combined over 230 yards of rushing and 4 TDs.
Defensively UND was able to sack QB Dante Warren 3 times and intercept him twice, including Freshman Safety Jeremy Washington's first career INT.
UND improves to 2-0 and USD falls to 0-3.
Note: South Dakota has yet to have a winning season since entering the FBS in 2009.

More History is Being Made

Following UND's historic upset of Oregon, they have received their first ever ranking. The coaches poll ranks them 16th(after being unranked previously). Now, obviously this is the first couple weeks of the season, so rankings don't mean much. But regardless, history has been made.

UND Shocks the #7 Ducks At the Autzen Zoo

Game Report Posted: August 13, 2009 05:18

UND 31, #7 Oregon 24
It was a glorious day to be a Sioux fan. UND has pulled off its biggest win yet, against its toughest opponent yet and in the toughest stadium yet. UND came in as heavy underdogs against the Oregon Ducks, ranked 7th in the Nation. Oh yeah, and it was on National Television. Not to mention UND's lack of defensive experience.
But new starting QB Drew Olsen, a transfer from Iowa, went 15/23 and 127 yards impressively for his first game. Catlin Solum, however, was the man of the game. 33 rushes, 170 yards and 2 TDs to lead UND to it's first win over a Top 25 opponent. But the play of the game? Ismael Bamba's 96 yard kickoff return for a TD, the second time he's done that in his career.
This is their most convincing win ever for the Sioux and they are sending a message to future opponents. Is this new UND team better than what we think? Time will only tell.

*-Season Preview-*

YOUNG SIOUX TEAM HOPEFUL
2011 looks to be an interesting year for a Sioux team that took in 35 freshman, more than half of those freshman will be getting playing time and even starting. The Safety position is exclusively made up of freshman and Linebackers are all underclassmen.
Iowa QB transfer Drew Olsen is now eligible to play and he is a JR(RS), filling the shoes of graduated QB Jake Landry.
UND also received a nice addition to the OL, from Wisconsin, rated an 86. Still, returning starters at HB, WR, and CB will make this year better for the Sioux, experience wise.
Prediction for 2011:
UND finishes 6-6, 4th place in the WAC.
