Owls Obtain Oft-Scoring Offense
The Rice Owls got off to a solid start to the 2008 season with a drubbing of rival SMU, 59-7. Not only is this game worth bragging rights, it's also a conference win, which will help Rice in it's goal of trying to use it's high-flying offensive attack to push it to a conference title.
The main point of concern coming into the season was the defense, as they lacked overall talent. However, they had a stellar game against this bottom dweller, recording 7 sacks, 2 INTs, and under 100 yards of total offense. Time will tell if the Owls will be able to carry over this defensive intensity to their other games, especially versus current #9 Texas in Austin week 4.
In other news, Chase Clement broke the single game passing TD record with 6; The previous record was 4.
