USC, Gable Run Over Huskies

Little could be done against the Trojans on Saturday as the Washington Huskies fell to the conference powerhouse 51-35.

In what could still be praised as a quality performance for a Husky team coming off of a 0-12 season, the Huskies fell to 1-2 in Steve Sarkisian's first season as Washington head coach.

Sarkisian, who was hired away as USC's offensive coordinator last December, said he was proud of how his team kept fighting against the highly ranked Trojans.

"This is a team who has challenged for the National Championship for about a decade now. You know we just could not carry over any momentum throughout the game," Sarkisian said. "But hopefully we can learn from this and take care of business against Stanford."

One of the biggest reasons for the dominating performance by the Trojans was the pass defense against Jake Locker, who threw three interceptions, one of which that was returned for a touchdown.

"I didn't have my best game today," Locker said. "All you can do is move on."

Nate Williams did provide what may be perhaps the highlight of the season when he picked off an Aaron Corp pass and returned it 102 yards for a touchdown, giving the Huskies a 7-3 lead after what appeared would be a 10-0 deficit.

But that momentum quickly faded as C.J. Gable would total four touchdowns, two on the ground, one in the air, and one kick return.

"C.J. is a tremendous player, I know that first hand from coaching him," Sarkisian said. "If he's not here we could have won this game, but unfortunately they have about eight other blue chippers to back him up who are just as good, no question."
