Turnover Free Football Carries Buffaloes
The Colorado Buffaloes are starting to mold into the team that Coach Magee designed. Behind a huge game from HB Hugh Charles, the Colorado Buffaloes were able to take out the Arizona State Sun Devils 31-17 on the road today.
The Buffaloes offense looked as disciplined as can be under Coach Magee, not forcing anything down the field and taking what the defense would give. The result was turnover free football and and an extremely efficient game.
HB Hugh Charles had three touchdowns and 175 yards on 22 carries, including two long touchdowns of 48 and 57 yards, both on QB option plays.
QB Cody Hawkins was 9 for 12 with 85 yards and a touchdown, and managed the game perfectly. He was able to hit seven different recievers, and didn't force any passes into coverage.
On defense, RE Alonzo Barrett recorded a team high 7 tackles with 2 sacks. ROLB Jake Duren added two as well.
The only negative to the game was the lack of ball possession. The Buffaloes only had the ball for one minute longer than the Arizona State Sun Devils, and that's something Coach Magee wasn't too pleased with:
"We need to hold onto the ball for longer if we're truly going to be a Coach Magee team. The plan is to suck the energy out of the other team by playing keep away. Let them turn it over, let them rush down the field, but when we get the ball it's going to be a while before the other team gets it back."
