Illini D, Ohio Injuries Contribute to 5th Victory of Season
CHAMPAIGN, IL: Ohio was riding high coming into Champaign, bringing both a 5-1 record and the NCAA's leading rusher to attempt to give Illinois its first loss of the season.
However, the Bobcats' hopes quickly faded after losing star halfback Kalvin McRae for the game after an elbow injury in the first quarter. Losing McRae, who entered the day first in the NCAA in rushing yards (985) and touchdowns (15), sent the offense to a screeching halt.
