Canes Survive Early, Come Away With Rout
The Hurricanes rebounded from last week's loss to the Gators, pulling away to beat 18th ranked West Virginia after a shaky start in Morgantown. Rainstorms hovered over the field throughout the day but in the end the Canes weathered the storm and came away with a 47-24 victory.
The offense were led by senior receiver Michael Capers, with 2 TDs receiving, and junior receiver Terrell Raymond, who caught a TD and returned a punt 60 yards for another. There wasn't much to be said for the Miami run game on the day, which managed only 78 yards. The Canes made up the difference through the air, however, completing 22 of 27 passes for 349 yards and 5 touchdowns.
The defense got it's spark from senior captain and middle linebacker Aaron Miller, who led the Canes with 15 tackles on the night. Senior safety Zach Williams chipped in with an interception, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery, all in the second half.
This game was an important step for Miami in recovering from last week's loss. The Canes now prepare for an ACC conference battle with rival Florida State. With this win today the Hurricanes have bounced back and kept their outside hopes of a National Championship berth alive.
