Auburn handles Blue Raiders in season opener

Auburn should have beaten the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders by at least 60 points in this game, but instead languished to a 41-10 win thanks to plenty of mistakes by the awful Blue Raiders.

Quarterback Anthony Singleton completed just 14 of his 38 throws in the game for 131 yards, and was picked off five times in the loss. He was able to rush for over 100 yards on 21 carries and accounted for just about every yard of offense on the day, including pitching for most of the running backs' best gains. In the end, he wasn't ready for the big stage and his turnovers were the difference against an Auburn team that played well below their standards.

The Tigers were held to just a field goal in the first quarter and led just 13-3 at halftime. That's when the Blue Raiders got the idea that they might be primed for an upset and went away from their offensive game plan, which admittedly wasn't getting them anywhere.

When they started trying to throw the ball deeper down the field, the mistakes started to cascade.

Auburn took advantage of great field position in the second half to score on a 39-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter, then scored 21 points in the fourth quarter to tidy up the score on ESPN's bottom line.
