Fireworks in Evanston

The Gophers squeezed out another Victory on the road, this time against Conferance Foe Northwestern. The game started on a good note for the Gopher as on the first offensive play HB Duane Bennett Broke loose for a 63 yard run. On the next play Weber hooked up with TE Lair for a quick Gopher's TD.

The next 28 points would be all Northwestern as they blew up the Gopher's D. Late in the 2nd Xzavian Brandon put some life back in the Gophers as he returned a Kickoff for a TD and brought the Gophers within 14 going into the half.

Northwestern got the ball at half and the Gophers gave up a field goal. On the next kick off Xzavian Brandon worked his magic again and returned another one for 95 yards and put the Gophers within 10. Weber added 6 points on a 6 yard run to put within 3. Their next offensive drive Weber got sacked for safety and put the Wildcats up by 5.

Defensive End Matt Garin put the Gophers up by 2 on a 53 yard pick six. Lipscomb would add to the Gophers lead with a 1 yard rush. Northwestern came back with a 54 yard pass from Mauro to Ebert. But Minnesota put the nail in coffin with a 36 yard field goal.
Matt Garin broke the school record with 6 sacks.
