High Stakes Shootout

Illinois could keep up with Minnesota's high powered offense but in the end which came down to the final play of the game the Gopher's were the ones who walked away with a victory.

The Game was full of big plays, the Ilini had a Kickoff return and a huge pick six for 97 yards that put them up 28-21. Their lead didn't last long because on the ensuing kickoff Hayo Carpenter returned it 97 yards and 6 points for the Gophers.
Illinois had a late 3rd quarter field goal to give them the 31-28 lead and early in the 4th they kicked another FG for a 6 point lead.

Weber led his team down the field and had a huge pass to Brandon Green for another Touchdown and a 1 point lead. The lead didn't last as the Illini flew down the field and scored on a 5 yard run by Green. They went for 2 but the Gopher's D held them and Minnesota was only down by 5.
Once again Weber led the Gophers down the field and ran in a 14 yard run to give the Gophers the lead. The Gophers went for 2 and got them to give them a 43-40 lead.

The Illini had 6 seconds left and went for it on fourth, McGee stepped back and threw a bomb to a wide open receiver. Luckily FS Kim Royston had the angle and made the tackle.

Gophers Win by 3 points.

The Gophers squeezed out another Victory on the road, this time against Conferance Foe Northwestern. The game started on a good note for the Gopher as on the first offensive play HB Duane Bennett Broke loose for a 63 yard run. On the next play Weber hooked up with TE Lair for a quick Gopher's TD.

The next 28 points would be all Northwestern as they blew up the Gopher's D. Late in the 2nd Xzavian Brandon put some life back in the Gophers as he returned a Kickoff for a TD and brought the Gophers within 14 going into the half.

Northwestern got the ball at half and the Gophers gave up a field goal. On the next kick off Xzavian Brandon worked his magic again and returned another one for 95 yards and put the Gophers within 10. Weber added 6 points on a 6 yard run to put within 3. Their next offensive drive Weber got sacked for safety and put the Wildcats up by 5.

Defensive End Matt Garin put the Gophers up by 2 on a 53 yard pick six. Lipscomb would add to the Gophers lead with a 1 yard rush. Northwestern came back with a 54 yard pass from Mauro to Ebert. But Minnesota put the nail in coffin with a 36 yard field goal.
Matt Garin broke the school record with 6 sacks.
