Key player: Left defensive end Ben Humphrey gets two sacks and several QB pressures against Heisman Trophy winner Calvin Muhammad.
The skinny: The defense is the star, holding Muhammad under 200 passing yards for the first time all season and sacking him seven times. Tackle Bill Norton also gets two sacks. ... Bobby Martin gets 167 rushing yards to lead the offense. ... This win would have put the Mustangs in the national title game if not for last week's upset by Ohio State. Instead, it's on to the Sugar Bowl against Florida.

Key player: Dallas native Pendejo Sanchez has a monumental homecoming, returning a fumble 60 yards for the tying score, then scooping up a fumbled punt and going 34 yards to give the Buckeyes (6-6) a 24-17 lead with five minutes left.
The skinny: Oh, crap, there goes the national title. Mustangs defense allows only a TD pass, but the Buckeyes' defense and special teams make up for it with returns as they overcome a 17-10 fourth-quarter deficit. ... The Mustangs have the ball three times in the final five minutes with a chance to score, but QB Brandon Owens is sacked a total of five times on those possessions. WR Lee Jordan gets behind the defense on a Hall Mary on the game's final play, but the ball hangs too long and the defense bats it away at the OSU 5-yard line. ... Bobby Martin runs 21 times for 97 yards to surpass 1,000 for the season.

The skinny: TE Brandon Mills and WR Brandon Ward each catch 12 balls; it's a season best for each freshman. ... Lee Jordan starts the rout early when he takes a slant, breaks a tackle and runs up the middle of the field for a 68-yard score. ... Oh, yeah, the rushing offense was on, too. Bobby Martin rushes for 197 yards.

Key player: Bobby Martin's butt was glued to the bench through most of the first eight weeks of the season; maybe the wrong guy was starting. Martin turned in his second straight 200-yard day, going for 212 in his second start since Danny Richardson was shelved for the rest of the season by a concussion.

Game Report Posted: May 04, 2010 22:06
Key player: Bobby Martin steps up in place of injured Danny Richardson and hits career highs in carries (40) and rushing yards (219).
The skinny: Richardson, who was a Heisman candidate, is done for the season because of a concussion. He's seeing little birdies circling his head after being decked by a Tar Heels linebacker. ... Mustangs get commitment from beastly DE Arthur Weeks and DT Thomas Gates. Next year's defensive line will be every bit the monster that this one's is.
The Mustangs are on course for a title-game matchup game against No. 2 Cincinnati so far, but the real national-title game could be coming in the Big 12 championship against No. 6 Texas Tech, which is No. 1 in the nation in offense, passing and scoring (46.2 points per game).

Key player: DT Andre Higgins gets a career-high three sacks, part of a nine-sack day for the Mustangs. Hot damn.
The skinny: Ben Humphrey, Bill Norton and Jason Jenkins each get two sacks as the d-line goes nuts. ... SS Maurice Robinson goes 101 yards with an interception. ... TE Brandon Mills catches two TD passes.
SMU 66, Colorado 3
Game Report Posted: May 04, 2010 00:32
Key player: TB Danny Richardson rushes for two touchdowns and returns a kickoff for a score.
The skinny: The Mustangs, overstocked with beastly defensive linemen, make an inseason change from the 3-4 to a 4-3. The change leads to a clash between Coach NIbble and his defensive coordinator -- angry words, chairs thrown. But Nibble loves the 4-3, so he wins. The results speak for themselves against Colorado -- three points and five sacks.

Key player: Brandon Owens lives up to his early Heisman hype by hitting 14 of 18 for 184 yards and four touchdowns.
The skinny: Good game for a while in the rain in South Bend, but Mustangs slowly pull away after a 7-7 tie at halftime. ... Two sacks for left DE Ben Humphrey. ... This is the toughest game on SMU's sked, so an undefeated year looks within easy reach.
SMU 34, No 19 Iowa 3
Game Report Posted: April 29, 2010 17:17
Key player: Danny Richardson looks ready to join the pantheon of great Mustangs backs after a 158-yard day that includes two touchdowns.
The skinny: Defense is the unsung star here with five sacks while limiting the Hawkeyes' rushing to 46 yards. ... QB Brandon Owens, the leading Heisman candidate entering the season, has an up-and-down time with two TD passes, but takes 10, yeah, that's right, 10 sacks. Dude has a cannon arm but can't move.
