Aztecs 5-1 at the halfway point

The Aztecs came out with purpose and attitude in their 41-10 win over Arkansas State.

In what turned out to be a good tune-up for this weeks contest with Washington The Aztecs had a chance to test their depth against a quality D1 opponent and prepare for the visiting Huskies.

Its Time to look back on the first half highlights of the 2013 season.

Offensive MVP- A no brainer here. Adam Dingwell has been the catalyst behind the Aztec attack. Throwing for over 1400 yards and 14 Td's to 1 int all while completing 70% of his passes. Dingwell has also been a surprising threat on the ground rushing for 4 Td's.

Honorable mention- Adam Muema- 587 yards rushing 7 td's
Colin Lockett- 450 yards receiving 6 td's

Defensive MVP- This one was a lot tougher to decide. A patchwork defense at the beginning of the year. This unit has improved week after week and is starting to become a respectable defense.
I decided on Co MVP's Nat Berhe- 30 solo tackles an Int and the leader of the defense. The cool calm and collected to the Co MVP Jake Fely- the fiery undersized mlb with 25 solo tackles 8 for loss and 4 sacks. It took him a few weeks to adjust to the new scheme and to get off blocks but he has adjusted and been a key cog to the Aztecs resurgance.

Plays of the half year. No 1. King Holder's INT in overtime against Oklahoma State to seal the upset. It set the tone for the year. These Aztecs just keep fighting.
No. 2. Eric Pinkston's 64 yard INT return for Td against Ole Miss. A week after the loss against Mizzou it looked like the Rebels were driving down the field for the opening score when Pinkston jumped a slant route and raced down the sideline for the TD that set the tone for the game and possibly turned the season around.

Game of the year (so far). Another easy one to pick here. The season opener for the Aztecs at Oklahoma State. The #16 ranked Cowboys were double digit favorites over the Aztecs. In a game that featured 3 overtimes and over 1000 yards of total offense. Adam Dingwell threw for 354 yards and 2 TD's finding Colin Lockett 7 times for 113 yards and a TD. Adam Muema had 22 carries for 174 yards and 3 tds on the ground in the 49-41 win. The Aztecs were finally able to get to the Cowboy QB in overtime and finally forced a mistake that King Holder intercepted to end the game.

So at the halfway point in the season the Aztec's find themselves all alone in first place and looking to contend in their first year in the PAC-14
