Year 4

Season Report Posted: June 04, 2012 22:20

Vols 48, Colorado 21: Brian Coley, in his first season as clear starter at QB, hits 35 of 46 for 404 yards and four touchdowns. He was an injury fill-in last season for John Casey.

No. 5 W. Michigan 30, Vols 22: UT gives up more than 200 rushing yards and trails the entire way.

Vols 34, Florida 31: UT falls behind 27-7 in the first half, but claws back behind 400 yards passing by Brian Coley and three rushing TDs by Cody Barrett.

Vols 42, Temple 21: Brian Coley passes for 380 yards.

Vols 17, Ole Miss 14: Coley hits 23 of 39 for 276 yards, but it's not a win until freshman Terrance Carter picks off a pass at the UT 34 in the final minute. TB Cody Barrett is out for the season (knee).

Vols 59, Georgia 34: Coley throws for 420 yards, freshman Lee Bush runs for 159 in his first start.

Vols 16, Alabama 7: Freshman Andy Gonzales kicks three field goals. Defense holds Tide to 164 yards.

South Carolina 44, Vols 17: Brian Coley implodes, throwing a pick-six and hitting only 16 of 32 for 200 yards with two INTs.

Vols 28, Arkansas 20: Lee Bush runs for 167 yards.

Vols 44, Vandy 42: Coley goes nuts with a school-record 564 yards and five TDs to barely hold off the equally pass-crazy Commodores. Once again, it will come down to UT and Kentucky to decide the SEC East championship in the season finale.

UK 42, Vols 35: UK races to 31-10 lead, then holds on as Vols' Hail Mary from Brian Coley to Russell Martinez is stopped at the Cat 3-yard line on the final play. Coley hits 30 of 42 for 468 yards and three TDs. Cats, Vols and Florida finish 6-2; Gators win East on BCS points.

No. 6 Iowa 42, Vols 35: Year 4 wraps up with a narrow loss in the Outback Bowl. Brian Coley passes for 340 yards.

Coley finishes the season with 4353 yards, 29 TDs and 12 INTs.

Lee Bush grinds for 902 rushing yards, and injured Cody Barrett stops at 401.

TE Lee Howard wraps up his college career with 71 receptions and classmate Joey Reid has 70.

The only awards recipient is SS Terrance Carter, who is a freshman All-American.
