Brian Coley's prolific passing is the reason for optimism coming off an 8-5 season. Coley, now a junior, threw for 4,353 yards and 29 TDs last season as the Vols abandoned their balanced offense after the tailbone injury to tailback Cody Barrett and aired it out instead.

Barrett is back along with Lee Bush (900 yards), but Coach Slacker has decided to stay with the spread attack and throw the rock.

The defense was a problem in big games, especially the secondary; no big changes in personnel or schemes are coming, so the returnees will have to raise their game.

Vols 54, East Carolina 20: A tight game in the second half opens up as Brian Coley goes deep for three of his six TD passes.

Maryland 28, Vols 23: Coley hits only 1 of his last 9 passes as the Terrapins pull ahead.

Vols 27, Florida 21: Cody Barrett grinds out 157 rushing yards.

Air Force 24, Vols 17: Vols run out of gas in the mountains, surrendering 190 rushing yards to speedy tailback Chad Davis.

Vols 48, Middle Tenn. State 20: Coley fires five touchdown passes.

Vols 27, Georgia 14. Dunno. Simmed it to move along.

Alabama 34, Vols 30: Four turnovers were killers.

No. 5 Auburn 47, Vols 21: Coach Slacker hates traveling to the state of Alabama.

Vols 38, Miss. St. 24: Five TD passes by Coley.

Vols 41, Ole Miss 9: Three INTs help hold down the Rebels' 4,000-yard passer.

Vols 53, Vandy 0: This game isn't even fun to play. Too easy.

Vols 42, No. 18 Kentucky 14: Vols finally break through against the Wildcats and win the SEC East. Coley's four TD passes give him 39 for the season.

Vols 31, No. 9 Arkansas 10: Vols have their first SEC title under Coach Slacker and are on the cusp of a 10-win season after Coley hits 16 of 28 for 286 yards and three TDs.

Sugar Bowl -- Vols 27, No. 5 Ohio State 24: Adrian Gonzalez hits a 24-yard field goal on the final play to cap UT's comeback and give the Vols a 10-4 season. OSU had a pick-six and fumble-return TD to build a 24-3 first-half lead, but the Vols chipped away and put together a 56-yard drive in the final minutes to win it.

The bowl win and SEC title cap a big year for Coach Slacker, who moves the program up to four-star status.

Coley hits 60 percent for 3,760 yards, 42 TDs and 14 INTs.

WR David Rankin and TE John Moss each catch 60 passes, and Michale Young gets 41.

TB Cody Barrett rushes for 1,100 yards and Lee Bush gets 600.
