Texas Opens the Season with a Blowout
Texas started it's defense of the National Championship with a game at Fresno State. Texas picked up where it left off last season.
The Longhorns showed that Garrett Gilbert was not the only reason for the success last year. Redshirt junior Paul Bailey is this years starter at quarterback and he did not disappoint. He went 11 for 15 for 231 yards and 4 touchdowns. Texas also has a new starter at halfback. Redshirt senior Chris Whaley will be the workhorse for the Horns. In his first game as start he posted 115 yards on 19 carries. Redshirt freshman Brian Andrews looks to be the go-to guy at receiver. In his first game as a Longhorn he hauled in 5 passes for 89 yards and 3 scores.
Defensively, Texas was led by Jared Johnson and Brandon Walter. Each recorded 9 tackles. Walter had 2 TFL and 1 forced fumble. Johnson sacked the quarterback once. Redshirt freshmen Anthony Johnson also started his Longhorn career with a bang. He only accounted for 3 tackles and 1 pass deflection but had an amazing interception that was returned 105 yards for a score.
Texas next hosts USC in an early season matchup of 1 vs. 2.
