Aggies Open Season With Win

It wasn't pretty but Dennis Franchione and his Texas A&M Aggies opened the 2006 season with a win over Tulsa 34-21. Devin Gregg got things going for the Ags when he picked up a fumble and raced 64 yards for the first touchdown of the year to put A&M up 7-0. Tulsa would tie things up on a 4 yard touchdown pass from Smith to Tennial. True Freshan Mike Goodson would put the Aggies back on top before the end of the first quarter with his first career touchdown from 13 yards out. Tulsa would then quite the large Kyle Field crowd that braved the brutal Texas heat when Smith threw another TD from 26 yards followed by a 37 yard interception return to put Tulsa on top 21-14. Sophmore QB Stephen McGee would tie the game right before halftime as he found Chad Schroeder with a 23 yard touchdown to make it 21-21. Texas A&M would own the second half as they shut out the Golden Hurricanes while tacking on 13 more points of their own with McGee hitting L'Tydrick Riley for a 42 yard score and kicker Richie Bean adding 2 field goals to make the final 34-21. Coach Fran stated that although he was glad to get that first win they still had alot of work to do particularly on the defensive side of the ball. The Aggies will look to go to 2-0 next week as they take on Louisiana Lafayette.
