Deacons Chase Away Wolfpack, 22-9
The Wake Forest Demon Deacons bounced back from last week's meltdown by shutting down the North Carolina State Wolfpack, 22-9. Most significantly, Wake's long-stagnant running game showed significant signs of life, as the Deacons rushed for more than 200 yards.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Deacons drew first blood when Chip Brinkman returned a punt 59 yards for a score. Kevin Harris added a 15-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to extend the lead to 14-0. The Wolfpack added a field goal and a long touchdown run to cut the lead to 14-9. Harris then iced the game with a 60-yard touchdown run, and Josh Adams added a 2-point conversion on an option pitch from Riley Skinner. Linebacker Stanley Arnoux finished off the Wolfpack by intercepting a pass from Harrison Beck.
Harris led the rushing attack with 110 yards, and Adams ran for an additional 81 yards. Although the running game was effective, the Deacons inconsistent passing game struggled. Skinner threw for just 113 yards, and did not complete a pass longer than 18 yards. Linebacker Aaron Curry led the defense with 6 tackles, including 4 for losses.
