The first half was almost exactly even for both teams and was 14-14 at half. Wake intercepted a pass at the end of the 3rd, and scored on the following drive to make it 21-14. ECU answered back with a long pass that resulted as a touchdown, and made the game 21-21. Allen scored on a short run up the middle, and made the game 28-21 Wake early in the fourth. Wake forced a safety toward the end of the game making the score 30-21. ECU muffed a punt and Wake recovered it, but was held to a field goal which they missed keeping the score 30-21. ECU was unable to score and the final was 30-21 Wake.
