Dawgs shut out Zips 30-0

It took a couple of late touchdown passes by Jake Locker for the Huskies to hang 30 points on the hapless Akron football team, who didn't have a whole of "Zip" of their own on offense.

Despite the offensive struggles, it was a great day for the Husky defense. A trio of linebackers - including two seniors and a bright-eyed freshman - had 26 tackles between them. Freshman middle linebacker Kyle Haynes made 7 stops and had two interceptions.

"It's early in his career, but Kyle looks like the type of middle linebacker that every truly great defense has to have," said Coach Mora. "Now hear me well, I didn't say that we are a great defense. But in the coming years, we have a chance to be a great defense with Kyle on our side of things."

The Huskies allowed just nine first downs, 118 passing yards and 146 yards of total offense, forcing four turnovers.

The running game was completely bottled up for the Huskies and Jake Locker was running for his life, but he managed to complete 29 of his 44 throws for 351 yards and three touchdowns. Willie Wells had his second career touchdown catch in his second game, and Anthony Broyles and Devin Aguilar also caught touchdown passes as Locker accounted for 93.3% of the team's offense on the day.
