UW crushes Wyoming to open the season

The Huskies took a 31-10 lead into halftime thanks to a slew of mistakes by the Wyoming Cowboys, then shut out their counterparts in the second half for a convincing 62-10 victory to start the season.

Special teams played a big role in the early assault, as Ryan Perkins kicked a field goal to get the Huskies on the scoreboard early on. Jason Howard plunged in for the first of three touchdown runs before the Cowboys kicked a field goal. The Huskies responded with another big special teams play as Anthony Broyles returned a kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown and a 17-3 lead.

Jake Locker's 35-yard touchdown pass to Willie Wells made it 24-3. It was the freshman wide receiver's first of what will likely be many touchdown receptions.

"He's an impressive young player," said the senior quarterback Jake Locker. "It's amazing how fast he is; he certainly adds a dimension that we didn't have before."

Wyoming's only touchdown of the game came just before halftime on a short run. The Huskies responded with four touchdowns on the ground in the second half, and a field goal just for good measure.
