Coach Procter/ The Beginning

Season Report Posted: October 07, 2010 00:13

The Hilltoppers are without a doubt one of the worst and most struggling programs in the country. Everyone new it was time for a change and thats exactly what happened. Coach Procter has been given the head coaching job for Western Kentucky. With this change, coach Procter is going to be bringing in the spread, and a 4-2-5 defense. It is his first year but he is said to be an offensive guru."I come to this program with high hopes, says Procter. These first few years could be tough ones but we will be getting better over time. Once the players buy in to the program us coaches have, we will have some big years to come. For now, we are rebuilding, but we are still going to do everything we can to win." What he says sounds good, but dont expect much from the first year or two. They do have a star freshman quarterback, but thats about it. There is little to no experience on the defensive side of the ball. Lets hope the players buy in to the program and start off with a bang.

What To Expect

Season Report Posted: October 07, 2010 00:17

Well like we said before, there is little to expect from this young inexperienced football team. The offense is lead by the freshman quarterback while on the other side of the ball nobody has any idea of who the leader will be. "Our goal is to go to a bowl game this season. I think we have a good shot for it to. I like the boys we have in this group but were just lacking leadership. I do expect good things though from this young group of rascals" stated coach Procter. Who knows how this season will go.. Dont expect too much.

Season Prediction

Season Report Posted: October 11, 2010 21:38

@Nebraska - L
@Kentucky - L
Indiana - L
@South Florida - L
@FIU - L
UL Monroe - W
@UL Lafeyette - L
North Texas - L
Florida Atlantic - W
@Arkansas State - W
Middle Tennessee State - L
@Troy - L

-As you can see here, the experts have predicted the Hilltoppers to win no more than three games all year. All of whom are fairly weak teams. " You just cant worry about what other people say or think about you. We have something to prove this year. We may not be the best team but were sure as hell gonna give it all we got." Stated coach Procter. Atleast there is no where to go but up.. Its just a prediction, but most know its usually pretty accurate.

Key games -
Indiana
@South Florida
@FIU
@UL Lafeyette
Middle Tennessee State

- The games listed here could really be a key factor in determining how the season ends. They say if you can win three out of your five key games, it helps out a lot in the long run on how well the team will work together. Although they are predicted to lose all the games listed, thats one of the reasons why they are considered key games. Three out of the five are conference games so we can hope to expect pretty close games there. The predicted best for this young team is a 6-6 season, which atleast would be a moral win for the players and the coaches. Lets hope the Hilltoppers can take advantage in these key games and hopefully make it into the post season.

Blownout

Game Report Posted: October 07, 2010 03:17

There wasnt much hope going in to this Saturday, but you would of atleast liked to see a little bit of a closer game."What can I say?(stated coach Procter) They were the better team out there hands down. The boys went into this game already knowing they were going to lose, and that just made things worse. Ill tell you this... Six turnovers a game and you can expect not one win all season from us. Thats unacceptable and it cant happen again, no matter who is on the other sideline. I understand it was our quarterbacks first game but he cant be throwing four pics. Ill take the blame on that one though. Thats a lack of preparing. This was a good game for us and will help prepare the boys for the next time we have to go into an enviroment like that. I just want next time to be a different score." You could tell the coach is dealing with a lot of questions after getting man handled. Next weak is Kentucky, and there a 21 point favorite going in. Lets hope they can turn things around there and start playing some football.

Kentucky Rolls Through The Hilltoppers

Game Report Posted: October 07, 2010 03:34

"Ive said it once and Ill say it again, six turnovers is way too many in one game. Giving the ball away that many times is just asking for an ass kicking. Excuse my language but ive seen enough turnovers now for the next three damn seasons. You better believe this quarterback will never, I mean never, throw five passes for ints. again in one game. Im a coach who will usually give you plenty of time to get comfortable at a position, but this is out of hand. If we have too, we will bench his ass for a week or two to let him get his mind straight. He'll be ready for next week. Trust me.." To me it sounds like someone will be running for a few days. Once again the Hilltoppers get stomped on and used for padding stats. The Hilltoppers are now 0-2 on the season heading the wrong way. Next weekend is Indiana who is a favorite by 16 points which means next week could turn out to be similar to the previous two. It is the first home game of the season, so maybe that will be a factor in motivation for these boys. But as of right now, there is nothing to cheer for here on campus and can hopefully get a chance to next Saturday.

35-27 Indiana defeats Hilltoppers

Game Report Posted: October 07, 2010 03:52

With a 13-0 lead at the end of the first quarter it looked like there was a golden road ahead for the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, but that all went away as soon as the second quarter struck the first second off the clock. That lead to a 28 point second quarter by Indiana giving them a 28-13 lead at the half. "It was like we thought we had already won the game or something.. I dont know what they were doing out there, but it sure as hell wasnt football. I am proud of the team for way they competed during the first and fourth quarter. Its good to see that we had no pics today either(broad grin comes across his face), or this could of been a blowout. These kids still have a lot to learn this year, i just wish I would of had more time with these kids during the offseason. We will learn from our mistakes and come out next week and compete. USF is a team that always brings everything they have and with it being at there place, you can expect them to perform even better. This will be a good test for us here early in the season. But overall im proud of the boys besides in the second and third quarters, but its back to work Monday. We got a lot of stuff to work on and a lot to prepare for." You can say that the Hilltoppers gave a good fight, but didnt quite have enough in the engine to grasp the touchdown the were looking for late in the game. It actually came down to a hail mary from around the 50 lard line, but got batted down by the Indiana defense to win the game with no time left on the clock. Next week will tell a lot. Hopefully the team will come out and battle hard like they did today, but FINISH the game this time and never let up.This loss now makes the Hilltoppers 0-3 on the season.

USF 36 Hilltoppers 17

Game Report Posted: October 12, 2010 22:26

The Hilltoppers came into this game Saturday desperate for there first win of the season. After getting beat, the Hilltoppers are now 0-4 on the season, and start conference play in two weeks."I really thought our boys were prepared enough. I understand we got beat pretty handily but it should of been much closer. We had three key turnovers that lead to 21 points. Two of which were in the red zone. Its mistakes like these that will get you beat in games you ought to win. With all respect, USF is a great program, but I honestly think we probably should of come away with atleast a close game, if not a win. Im not as mad at the quarterback this time for the pics as i am the wrecievers. One wrong route, and two dropped balls that lead to three pics. Those are just other mistakes you cant make if you plan to beat a team like this. This week off will help us work on a few of these problems were having, so we can come out and perform and come away with a W in our first conference game," stated coach Procter. Many questions will be answered in two weeks when the Hilltoppers go on to play FIU. Red zone turnovers have really taken its toll an this Western Kentucky squad and have possible cost them a win or two. Both teams will be looking for there first win, so this game means a lot for both programs.

FIU Inches Past Western Kentucky

Game Report Posted: October 12, 2010 22:39

You would think losing your star quarterback(who is the best player on offense) for half the game, that the Hilltoppers were sure to lose this game. "He came in there and did a great job i would say. He did much more than any of us were hoping for and almost help lead us to our first win of the season. Our offense did die down for a few drives after Fred got hurt. By all means it was a big loss in this game for Fred to go out, but our oppurtunities were there and we didnt capitalize when we needed to. It hurts to lose a conference game, but we gotta get on track here before the season is almost over. I do believe this team can compete out there with anyone, its just a matter of how many mistakes we make, which have been the reason for our season." Coach Procter didnt sound to mad when talking after the game at the press conference, but did show proud of the backup quarterback. The Hilltoppers are now 0-5 on the season, and have a slim chance of going to any bowl game. At this point the coaches are trying to get this young offense and defense used to the new playbooks. Next week is UL Monroe(2-3), who is looking for a win in hopes of making a run in the Sun Belt.

Hilltoppers Lose 6th Straight

Game Report Posted: October 12, 2010 22:55

There was a lot of hope from the fans coming in this Saturday as the Hilltoppers were playing UL Monroe. Everyone knew this was one of the games the experts predicted the Hilltoppers to win. Well that hope that everyone had was all gone at the end of the 3rd quarter."They beat us hands down out there. There depth caught up with us there late in the game. We were hangin in there but the depth just caught up to us. I do think the boys played hard, but once again, they have to finish what they start. The boys knew going into this game, that they were the better team, and I think they may have gotten in there heads a bit. We have to play more physical. Were always the ones getting run over and its time we run over someone else. We have to put this one behind us for now and learn from it and come out next week ready to fight," stated the exhausted coach Procter. The Hilltoppers are now 0-6 on the season and play UL Lafayette next week who only have one win under there belt. The Hilltoppers will be going out there knowing they need to win, but they have to KNOW there going to win instead of WANTING to win.

Hilltoppers Cant Finish

Game Report Posted: October 12, 2010 23:12

With the Hilltoppers up 17-13 at half, the few away fans that were there, were going cazy. Especially being down 13-0 at one point. "Not one point in the second half? How can we win if we dont score points? We once again failed to finish what we started. The boys just dont seem to understand that this isnt highschool anymore. Teams arent just going to lay down when losing. If we dont start finishing our games, its going to be a long season. Next week is North Texas, who is probably the best team in the conference. You better believe if we want any chance at winning this game, we are going to have to play fast from beginning to end. Practice will be tough this weekend, but this next game means a lot," stated the frustrated coach Procter. Western Kentucky is now 0-7 on the season, and are in look for any type of victory. North Texas(6-1) is by far the fastest team in the conference and hasnt lost a conference game all year. Who knows? Maybe the Hilltoppers can come away with an upset, which could very well, help the Hilltoppers to a few wins on the season.

Once More, The Hilltoppers Cant Finish

Game Report Posted: October 13, 2010 00:21

With it 17-0 in the second quarter with only a minute thirty left on the clock, the fans were energized. That lead to a a touchdown as North Texas scores to bring it to a ten point game. With under a minute left, the Hilltoppers throw an int, which then leads to another North Texas touchdown with less than ten seconds left. Going in to the second half there was still hope for the home crowd but all went away, as North Texas scores on the first drive of the half and never looked back."I just dont understand.. Do they not want to win? They have a chance to be up three possession going into the half and they just go back to not caring at the in of the second quarter which lets them right back into the game. From now on at practice, we will be working hard on these kids to keep there stamina up so this doesnt happen again. I dont know if anyone notices, but were getting closer. Every week its been a little bit better. Dont worry, we'll get one under our belts here soon. They just need someone to step up and carry this team. They need a leader," said coach Procter at the press conference after the game Saturday. The Hilltoppers are now 0-8 on the season, and are losing chances to win week in and week out. You gotta hope that eventually they can pull it off and finish a game..

Hilltoppers Get First Win In A Shootout

Game Report Posted: October 13, 2010 01:22

Both teams going into Saturday were both looking desperately for a win. Who would of predicted a 76-46 shootout though? Over 100 points were scored between these two schools, which ended up being the most points scored in one game."I thought going into this game that we were going to have some opportunities on the offensive side of the ball, but I would of never predicted this. But trust me, theres nothing wrong with this at all. I do wish our defense could of looked a little better out there, but its the first win of the season so were gonna take what we can from this and carry it over to next week, where I feel we fair pretty well against Arkansas State. I also want to thank the fans. They cheered louder than I have ever heard, which was exciting for me just as it was for the players. I think the fans were a key factor in motivating these kids to go out there and give it everything they had. But once tomorrow comes, its back to work. Celebrate it tonight, but we have to get ready for next week and carry over from today." Coach Procter seemed to be excited for what was the first win of the season. Fred(the quarterback) threw for what was an unheard of 514 yards, which was a school record."My receivers were doin a great job out there. What else can I say? I threw it to them and whether or not it was a good throw, they came down with it every time. I had no clue I had even thrown for that many yards until someone had to tell me after the game(big smile coming across his face)." It was an exciting game to watch as both offenses were scoring at will. Next week is Arkansas State(1-8), who is struggling very bad as well as the Hilltoppers. The experts did choose the Hilltoppers in this game to win. If they play as they did this week, there should be no question in whether they should win or not.
