Defense Wins the Day Once Again
The ASU defense really stepped up in this game for ASU to keep them undefeated in the Pac12 this season. The offense struggled and the defense gave up some big plays, but the D really stepped up when they needed to. Offensively, star HB Cam Marshall did a decent job of moving the Devils down the field. He had 99 yards on 23 carries, but it was the big FB Josh Fulton who did the scoring. He was rewarded for all of his blocking on the season with 2 short TD runs against our arch rivals.
Besides the 2 TD runs by Fulton, there are 2 main stats in this game, both of which are related. The Devil defense gave up some yards as they allowed the Cats to march down the field frequently, but their red zone defense was stupendous. While ASU got 2 TDs and 2 FGs in their 4 red zone trips, the wildcats got a goose egg in their 4 red zone appearances. This was due in great part to the 3 red zone (2 @ or past the goal line) INTs by ASU. Couple those 3 picks with a missed 25ish yard FG by the Arizona kicker and it was a great day of red zone defense for ASU.
