Pine Bluff struck first on a 65 yard Lowell Vandyke run when he sprung free on a short yardage attempt. And then UAPB just jumped on the Ass Techs throughout the first half. There was no scoring in the second half.

Lions Upend Herd

Game Report Posted: August 06, 2009 21:11

It didn't look like a rout early. The scoreless first quarter gave way to a 3-0 Marshall lead after UAPB made a goal line stand. Then Pine Bluff struck back with a TD to make it a 7-3 halftime score. The Aereoplane gradually exerted its superior depth on the Herd though and wore them down in the second half. Notable in this game was Joe Powell's 12 receptions.

This was a Heisman slider test game. It was the 3rd attempt, and I probably should have started over on this one too. But I had spent all afternoon (5 hours) trying to get this game in.

UAPB holds off UCF

The Lions built up a 17-0 lead at the half and then held on for dear life as UCF came whamming back.

Bluffs over Memphises

Game Report Posted: August 08, 2009 20:50

Vandyke chinked at the Tigers defense until he sprung free twice on long runs to set the tone.

Wave Slams Down on the Bluff

Game Report Posted: August 10, 2009 03:56

Tulane came down on Pine Bluff's grandiose hopes with a dose of upset reality. And Pine Bluff's offense didn't help its cause. Twice within scoring distance Thoong threw interceptions. And four times in a row on Pine Bluff's last possession, UAPB receivers dropped passes that were in their hands -- Powell (twice), Inocente, and Zeigler. To further seal the deal, senior safety Dustin Evans destroyed any chance of forcing Tulane to give up possession when he brought the ball carrier down by his facemask and was flagged with a personal foul.

What a messy game it was. Thoong couldn't hit anything early on, and then when he finally started finding his targets, they started dropping the ball. Ugh.

Lafayette played a tougher game than Pine Bluff expected in the nighttime rain, but it was a good game.

UAPB Rips IU

Game Report Posted: July 22, 2009 17:33

A national television audience saw Pine Bluff demolish an Indiana team that was excited to be in the Top 25 for the first time in many years. Hoosier fans in Hooters bars across the country were crushed.

UAPB holds off TU

Game Report Posted: August 01, 2009 16:18

UAPB hung on to survive a messy, messy game that had 10 turnovers and 10 sacks. It could have been worse: the teams also had 4 fumbles that did not fall into enemy hands. Thoong was completely outplayed by his counterpart Fred King. But Lowell Vandyke emerged as this season's secret weapon. When the game was on the line, it was VD with the run to pick up the first down, chew the clock, or keep the defense honest.

Tulsa's nickelback Kyle Richard was lost for the season with a shoulderblade break. It's not a huge blow for the Hurricane who are plenty deep at defensive backs. But the severe nature of the injury will do nothing to settle the grudge between the teams.

Lions Defeat Blazers 26-16

Game Report Posted: August 05, 2009 02:45

Pine Bluff played a fine game on the road in Birmingham on a pretty, red hued sunset sky evening. Unterkircher had a fine game under center and gave way in the second half to Rodolfo Cabello, and Vandyke gave way to Darrell Ball. The Blazers worked back into the game but a few dropped passes and missed opportunities in the red zone frustrated their comeback efforts.

Lions Outsnarl Cougars

Game Report Posted: August 05, 2009 19:04

A close game turned against Houston twice today. On Houston's first possession, scrambling QB Brandon Washington appeared poised to lead the Cougars to a score, but OLB Bailey intercepted a pass and returned it to near midfield. Pine Bluff scored a few plays later. But the chess match resumed until Washington was injured on a normal hit by Martin just after he released the ball on a 4th down pass attempt. He'll miss 4 weeks with a broken elbow. His backup Hollis was not nearly so agile in the pocket or versatile in the playbook, and the Lions ate him up from there on out.

Chippewas Down Bluffs

Game Report Posted: August 12, 2009 03:55

I said I like them ugly, didn't I? This one was hideous. Combined 56 yards rushing by both teams, and most of that in the final drive of the 4th quarter by CMU. Thoong was horrible, his receivers dropped everything, and he threw 5 picks, one of which was returned for a score, two prevented touchdowns, and the other two killed promising drives. UAPB was flagged 3 times in the first half for false starts, all by Dan Adams at right guard. CMU fumbled three times but recovered two of those.
